Homework 3

Problem 1.: Let

x1 = X1 − X2 + X3 , x2 = X2 − X3 + X1, x3 = X3 − X1 + X2
be the motion law. Find the inverse motion law and determine the matricies of the Green-
Lagrange and Euler-Almansi √ strain tensors (3+3+3)
Problem 2.: Let e◦1 = (1/ 2)(i1 + i2 ) and e◦2 = i2 be two material line element vectors in the
initial configuration. If the motion law is the same as for Problem 1 find (i) the stretch ratio and
the axial strain in the direction e◦1 and (ii) the angle α between the two material line elements
vectors after deformation. (6+6)

By solving Homework 2 a student can score 21 points. Written solutions should be submitted by October
31, 2017 at the latest. (The homework is not compulsory.)
