Game- based learning
What Is Game-Based Learning? When Is Learning a Game? There are several elements that define an activity as a game (GBL): Competition: the score-keeping element and/or winning conditions which motivate the players and provide an assessment of their performance. Note that players are not necessarily competing against each other. In fact, a lot of games have players working as a team to overcome some obstacle or opponent which is built into the game. Engagement: Once the learner starts, he or she does not want to stop before the game is over. Lepper and Cordova (1992) refer to this phenomenon as "intrinsic motivation" and ascribe it to four sources: challenge, curiosity, control, and fantasy.

Immediate Rewards: Players receive victory or points, sometimes even descriptive feedback, as soon as goals are accomplished When is a Game Educational? Make learning integral to scoring and winning. It is not enough to simply incorporate course material into a game. If it is possible to score and win without learning, students are likely to do so (

Categories of games that can be adapted for learning include:
Video Games(Digital Game-Based Learning) - programmers create these games. These are played over the Internet, on personal computers, or on specific game consoles hooked up to televisions. Board and card Games: do it yourself materials. These tend to emphasize strategy elements rather than being completely random games of chance. Some of board and miniature games take hours or even days to play.

How to Teach with Games To integrate learning and game play: 1. Work out how to give students points for accomplishing certain goals in a lesson plan ( ex. First group who can 2.
give the correct answer will get 1point score) Decide on rewards for the victors (ex. Winners will have no homework or use things as a reward)

For the solution of the said problem, I used the Game based learning Strategy. The class will be divided into groups. Word problems will be presented through powerpoint presentation. The first group which can raise the correct answer will get a 1point score. The group with the highest score will be the winner. Rewards will be given to the winning group. With this activity, I observed that it

2. Students tend to get bored or will not be attentive if every lesson is presented in the same way.
To have my students be always interested in every topic, I have to present the lessons with variety of activities like :
- Group work - Peer feedback, - Games, - Films, - Lectures, - Discussions and questioning, - Observations, - Writing papers - Building models, - Reading theory, - Projects, - Self-directed assignments - Problem-solving exercises
