Drill and Practice is a computer -instruction technique in which a series of structured problems
or exercises with immediate feedback to student responses. Students answer a question and get
immediate feedback. Feedback can be simple as correct or incorrect. Drill Practice provides
children with practice on concept that they have already learned. Good Drill and Practice
provides feedback and explain how to get the correct answer. Some contain student management
systems that keep track of student progress.
1. Immediate Feedback
The differences between pen and paper and drill and practice software is that when
students uses pen and paper he/she may do their work, sometimes wrong and the issue
that arise is that they will believe what is wrong is correct and may retain the information
until it is corrected by the teacher. However the drill and practice allows the student to
know immediately if the problems are accurate or not.
2. Motivation
Some students may get fed-up doing practice exercises in paper, or just plain do not like
writing a lot. Because of this using a computer may be a motivation to them to practice
what they need.
1. Subject: Moral
Activity: match and learn
Objective: Game which required lot of repetition of moral values.
a) Teachers give 10 morals values and 10 meanings of moral values
b) Student will match 10 morals values with the right meanings
2. Subject : Science
Activity: Multiple choice Questions (20 Q)
Objective: Test student’s knowledge on the topic of “Earth and Universe”
Students will be given 20 multiple choice questions at end of lesson. They need to
select a correct answer from choices given. Once they done, they will submit and
will get their result immediately. They will get correction for the wrongly answered
questioned.
3. Subject : Mathematics
Activity: Addition of 5
Objective: Pupils are able to add on 5 for the sum given using the "Interactive Maths
Machine "software.
Description: Pupils are taught to add count of 5 using real models by individually.
Then, the pupils will add on 5 using the graphics in the software to answer several
questions provided by the teacher in pairs.
DEFINITIONS OF THE INSTRUCTIONAL SOFTWARE GAMES
1. This tool encourages a fun, learning, and active learning environment within a video game.
2. Student learning will increase as the student masters the assigned skills.
3. The instructional game tool is usually repetitive that allows increased learning within a skill
the student previously did not understand.
4. The instructional game is similar to the layout of a video game except it encourages learning
and it promotes positive learning and encouragement.
5. Students will enjoy the instructional games unlike class assignments or homework! :-)
6. Encourages students with content area or topic.
7. Instructional Games are fun, exciting and motivating (University of Michigan,2012)
8. Increases A Child’s Memory Capacity - Games often revolve around the utilization of
memorization This not only relates to games whereby children have to remember aspects in
order to solve the game, memorize critical sequences, or track narrative elements.
9. Computer & Simulation Fluency - Playing on games via the internet allows children the
license to get used to how a computer works and thus it becomes second nature to them.
There are websites, such as Cartoon Network games, which provide young children with fun
and exciting games which also teach them to utilize the mouse and keyboard properly, not to
mention browsing, username and passwords, and general internet navigation.
10. Skill-Building (e.g. map reading) - A lot of games contain certain aspects which help
children with specific skills. For example, a lot of mystery and adventure games contain
maps which children will have to read. This obviously helps their map reading skills and
practical thinking. Moreover, there are games, such as football management games, which
introduce children to managing finances and general project management.
11. Develops Hand-Eye Coordination - As mentioned earlier, Cartoon Network games and
similar fare require children to use a gamepad or a keyboard and the mouse to operate the
games. Not only does this get them more tuned to how a computer works, but it also helps to
develop hand-eye coordination because children have to look at the action on the screen
whilst using their hands to control what is happening at the same time.

DEFINITIONS OF THE SIMULATON SOFTWARE
1) Save cost: Most of the time the simulation testing is cheaper and faster than performing the
multiple tests of the design each time. Simulations are often cheaper to create than their real
life counterparts. Installing flight simulation software is cheaper than buying a practice jet for
each school.
2) Make situation controllable: In safe mode and out of danger. Simulations remove the element
of danger from the situation. For example, you can "interact" with a Bengal tiger in a
simulation quite safely.
3) The simulation environment also provides the benefit of consistent, constant, and immediate
feedback. If the simulation is designed to offer feedback at various points throughout the
timeline, participants can take the feedback, make corrections, and move forward.
4) The mistakes participants make in a simulation, no matter if it’s a case study or a complex
flight simulator, are truly learning experiences. In other words, the outcome is not damaging
to the organization, its equipment, or is personnel.
5) They are easier to construct.
6) Simulations can be paused, whereas real life cannot. Pausing allows more time for students to
assess what's going on
EXAMPLES OF THE SIMULATON SOFTWARE
1. Tutorial provide a means of saving class time by giving the students what amounts to a
lecture which they can view in preparation for class discussion or as a follow-up to class.
2. Tutorial provide environment for learning through both interactive and observation of result
and conceptual descriptions of examples.
3. Tutorial software does not replace instructors, rather it provides them with additional
resources to facilitate communication during lectures and office hours
4. Tutorial software is expected to help develop intuition and visualization skills and improve
retention for average to good students. The visual presentation provides an alternate
perspective of the course material, which broadens understanding, and that some common
misunderstandings can be corrected more quickly with visual feedback.
5. To help students form an integrated understanding of basic concepts in each course and build
a stronger platform for more efficient advancement so they will be more able to assimilate
new technology as it evolves.
6. To provide background information to support “just in time” teaching styles or facilitate the
transition of re-entry students.
7. To help the lecturer use the tutorials as a resource to create and present any number of
precise examples that can help demonstrate a lecture topic to the class as a group.
8. To help lecturer create custom examples with precision and context to reinforce the lecture
message.
1. Problem solving software is a type of content free or content based program that places
emphasis on critical thinking, analysis, logic and reasoning via the presentation of set of data.
2. Problem solving consists of using certain and specific methods, in an orderly manner, to find
solutions to problems. In computer science and in the part of artificial intelligence, problem
solving encompasses a number of techniques known as algorithms, heuristics, and root cause
analysis. In these disciplines, problem solving is part of a larger process that encompasses
problem determination, de-duplication, analysis, diagnosis, repair, etc.
3. Problem solving software is a program that focuses on developing or exercising critical
thinking skills by the user, rather than a specific academic discipline.
4. Educational software that provides an environment for recalling information, sequencing,
analyzing, organizing, predicting outcomes, and formulating ideas.
a) Interesting and Enjoyable - Problem solving seems to employ problems that are implicitly
interesting to children. This is partly because problem solving does not involve a sequence of
very similar questions that are designed to practice the same skill. The novelty of the problems
seems to add to their interest.
b) Generate Greater Understanding - In the process of struggling with a problem, children can
often obtain a fairly deep understanding of the principles surrounding the problem. This
understanding is most likely enhanced when the students succeeded in solving the problems.
c) Develop Students' Flexibility and creativity - Problem solving provides an opportunity for
children to explore ideas and so gives them the chance to extend their creativity. Children are
continually coming up with ways of tackling problems that we hadn’t thought of before. The
interesting thing is that the children who are producing these ideas are not always the ones who
we generally think of as being good in the subject matter. Even apparently relatively weak
children may have ideas that turn out to be fruitful.
d) Promote Positive attitudes -Because the children seem to enjoy the problems, and get quite
involved with them, it helps them to gain a positive attitude towards the subject. Some of them
might even ask for more problem solving tasks.
