Content Standard Addressed: MGSE7.NS.1d Apply properties of operations as strategies to add
and subtract rational numbers.
Technology Standard Addressed:
1a Empowered Learner- Students articulate and set personal learning goals, develop strategies leveraging technology to achieve them and reflect on the learning process itself to improve learning outcomes. 3a Knowledge Constructor- Students plan and employ effective research strategies to locate information and other resources for their intellectual or creative pursuits 5a Computational Thinker- Students formulate problems and definitions suited for technology- assisted methods such as data analysis, abstract models and algorithmic thinking in exploring and finding solutions.

The website I am using to support my lesson is Khan Academy. This is a great resource for students regardless of If they are in the classroom or not. The students can access this site at home, and it is free for the students to use. It keeps the students engaged because when they are using the questions they are given feedback right away on if their answer is correct or not and shows steps on how to complete the questions. Alternative keyboards would be great for expression that students could use with this website as they have to input their answers as they go. To pass the practice they have for get 5 out of 7 questions correct. As for representation students are able to look up many different videos on this site along with practice problems to really understand the concepts that we are learning in class.
Lesson idea implementation:
To start off this lesson I will go through some basic notes that students can take notes on. During this time we are exploring adding and subtracting integers. I will introduce this practice after we have gone through notes and the students have a good understanding of negative numbers. This 7 question practice should take no longer than 10 minutes. The students will have the opportunity to do this as many times as they would like with new questions each time. While students are working on the assignment I am able to take note of the questions they are missing to understand where the students are in their learning. I will challenge the students to see if they can come up with real world problems on adding and subtracting integers to link their knowledge to the real world and give them a better understanding of the concept. I will conclude the lesson by review what was taught in class and answering any questions the students may still have. I can give students feedback while they are doing their work and even leave a note where their grades will be posted so that when they check their grades the feedback will also be there for them. Reflective Practice: I feel that the activities could impact students learning by giving them an unlimited amount of practice at their fingertips. They will be able to use the same tools when they are not in the classroom to further their knowledge. I believe that introducing games would help the students take more interest in adding and subtracting integers. Working with 7th graders they want the activities to be fun and a lot of times like to be able to compete with each other. Making these games a competition with their peers encourages them to actually understand what they are doing instead of just wasting time messing around. I believe that other technologies could enhance this lesson but also enhance their support outside of the classroom when I am not there to answer their questions.
