STRIPPING TOWER

Davila | Lovino | Rico

Tower Model/Types
Air Strippers > remove VOCs dissolved in contaminated water stream
CO2 Strippers > air is contacted with water and dissolved gases

Heuristics
Walas (Process Equipment: Selection and Design, Ch. 13-6, page 393) gives the general design considerations for columns. Perry (Perrys Chemical Engineering Handbook, Ch. 13-11, Table 13-1, page 1253) gives the thermodynamic data for binary systems.

General Design Considerations

Diameters of 0.5 to 3 m, and heights of 1 to 15 m Air-to-water ration ranges from 5 to 100 and is controlled by flooding and -P Pressure drop in the tower should be between 200 to 400 N/m2 per meter of tower height to avoid flooding Distribution plates must be placed approx. every 5 to 10 m in tower above each packing
