The word engineering is derived from the Latin word ingeniere which means ingenious.

In 1893, the first Ferris Wheel was built by engineer George W. Ferris. In 1906, Alice Perry was the first woman in the world to graduate with a degree in engineering. She received her qualifications from Queens College, Galway (now N.U.I. Galway). On 3rd December 1992, Neil Papworth, a British engineer, sent the first successful text message to his colleagues at Vodafone; it said: Merry Christmas

This program uses the robots double jointed capabilities, and the Waiti and Writeo commands to move a block to one point and then to another.

Back

This program is designed to sort parts depending on whether they activate a specific input. If input is activated, the block gets put in one bin; if not, the other bin. Utilizes the Mon, Moff, and other commands.

Automated Material Handling was my favorite lap in engineering. I was able to create robot programs to do such things as lift blocks, perform subroutines, and even move a conveyor. I enjoyed this lap because it was fun to just type things in and then watch a robot perform a complex task. Even though there were some struggles at first with the robot, I eventually got to the point where I was making interesting programs just for fun.

This logic program is designed to turn on each input 2 seconds after the previous one and keep it on for 2 seconds. Each input turns on a light for an output.

This logic program is designed so that when input 1 is energized, it turns on output 1, which seals in input 1. Input 6 is used as an emergency stop. Output 1 energizes input 2 which turns on output 2, sealing in input 2. Finally output 2 turns on output 3. This circuit is designed to control a continuous reciprocating circuit.

Programming Logic Control was rather easy because it allowed all electrical work to be transferred to a computer. Circuits were easy to create and were simple to control. It was also very easy to create circuits that were harder to create with the trainer. At times it was confusing because you had to learn what things meant what on the computer but once you figured it out it was nothing more than simple logic.

MasterCAM

(computer aided manufacturing):

MasterCAM program and part

Design Process was a stressful and difficult lap. I enjoyed it because it was challenging but I did not enjoy the tediousness of the lap. Instrument drawings in drafting were repetitive but became rather fun eventually. Using the computer to do skill after skill on Computer Aided Drafting and Computer Aided Manufacturing was very time consuming and at times would be very obnoxious, but with determination I was able to complete the tasks. I eventually learned to love design process for its convenience and capabilities.

Parallel Circuit: sends electricity to power multiple branches/components at once. Each branch receives equal voltage but split currents.

Series Circuit: sends electricity through a single path of components. Each component receives an equal current but a reduced voltage based on resistance of the previous component

Continuous Reciprocation Circuit: The first pushbutton starts the circuit, (the second pushbutton is the emergency stop) which activates the first control relay, sealing in the pushbutton. The first limit switch (1LS) is held closed by the retracted cylinder and activates the second control relay, sealing in the first limit switch. The second control relay also energizes the solenoid, extending the cylinder and opening the second limit switch, which de-energizes the solenoid and retracts the cylinder. When the cylinder retracts it hits 1LS, starting the circuit again.

Electrical systems was a mind bending activity that pushed me to solve problems in new ways. I required me to think in new ways and dig deep to find solutions. It taught me that failure will happen and sometimes you just have to go back to the drawing board and try again. Creating the circuits was stressful and difficult but rewarding once completed. Overall, electrical systems was challenging but also entertaining, because you go to see how things worked.

Hydraulic Circuit

Design a relay circuit that uses a two-position directional control valve to continuously cycle a cylinder. This circuit uses a pushbutton to start the cycle and energize the first control relay, sealing in the pushbutton. The normally open contacts of the first control relay close energizing the second control relay, which in turn extends the cylinder. The cylinder hits the limit switch 2 (LS2), opening the circuit, and de-energizing the second control relay and retracting the cylinder, which will close LS1 and start the cycle over again.

Pneumatic Circuit

This circuit uses the first pushbutton to activate a solenoid in order to shift the spools of the electro-pneumatic directional control valve. A green light turns on when the first pushbutton is pressed. When the spool shifts, the airflow changes from extending the cylinder to retracting the cylinder.

Fluid Power was a lap that allowed me to solve problems like a puzzle. Using schematics and diagrams, I had to work with a partner to create ways to reach a goal. I thought it was rather entertaining to use theory in order to solve a problem. My favorite part was making circuits that would power the motor and other components at the same time. Overall, it was a fun lap that was also challenging.

Variable Control Chart

Micrometer: The most accurate handheld measurement tool, used to measure lengths of objects. The operator first must read the sleeve scale (.025), then read the thimble scale (.001), and then the vernier scale (if there is one), and add the readings to the micrometers base length.

Dial Caliper: This Is a precision measuring tool used to measure the inside or outside of an object to the nearest .001 inch. The operator must turn the wheel to move the carriage, thus opening up the jaws to measure, and then read the dial.

Tensile Test: Stress/Strain Chart and Graph

Stress: Pressure caused by force, acting over a given area of material. Strain: Ratio of increased length to the original length of an object. Modules of Elasticity: Describes the relationship of stress and strain when material is under load in its elastic range.

Quality Assurance was a very time consuming lap. It involved a lot of math and calculations because of its constant use of measurements. Using the micrometers and dial calipers were difficult to use at first but I eventually became skilled with them and I learned to love the instruments. Performing the tensile test was my favorite part because we got to see how much force it take to pull an object apart, and then graph it using a stress/strain diagram.

Drill Press: The drill press is a machine used to create holes with a rotating tool to cut into the object. We used this machine to make numerous types of holes. It was also used to help create out design projects.

Manufacturing Process was a very thrilling lap to perform. One of the riskiest laps, it challenged me to develop trust in my classmates while working with vertical band saws, the CNC lathe, and other machines. It was rather sketchy at times because if you messed up, it could turn out extremely badly for someone. Fortunately, we were always safe and no one ever got injured. The combination of calculations and machine use made this lap very enjoyable.

Problem: Using the knowledge gained over the class period and pervious classes, participants must work in a group of two to design, fabricate, and demonstrate a Rube Goldberg device that applies power and energy principles. It must include complex fluid power, and electrical circuits.

Research: A Rube Goldberg is a device, machine, apparatus, or contraption that is intentionally over engineered that performs a simple task. It usually consists of a chain reaction, causing the rest of the machine to work. The name comes from the American cartoonist and inventor Rube Goldberg who would depict complex devices that did very simple things, such as a napkin wiping a persons chin.

Design Constraints and Specifications Electrical Systems this should be a complex circuit that has a minimum of two pushbuttons these can include a start and emergency stop button, and a minimum of one relay, two limit switches. May use any other electrical component you wish to add. Fluid Power must be a complex circuit that contains one relay, two cylinders, two limit switches or CAMs and a minimum of two pushbuttons which can include you start and emergency stop button. Also, you may use any other fluid power devices you want to use. CNC create a program that includes the circular interpolation command to make a minimum of two curved features on a piece of aluminum stock 3-4 in length. Robot Program which uses the IF-THEN, ELSE, ENDIF, CALL, SUB, and RETURN commands. Combination Circuit Analysis after designing the electrical circuit calculate the following: total voltage, resistance, and current. CAD Drawings once the detailed sketches are finished each group must draw the device using CAD or Inventor. This must include multiple views of the device, which is dimensioned to the precision of two decimal places. Each group must construct their device and circuits from their plans that were previously designed. You are not allowed to add anything later. Device must fit on a 2x2 base with a little construction as possible. CNC part must perform some sort of operation. Maximum allowed power for electrical is 24 volts and for fluid power 30 psi. Once the device has been activated the team may not touch it again. Every team gets three attempts to perform a successful run. Machine available for use are: unidirectional motors, fans, cylinders, limit switches, and anything else the team supplies that has been approved my Ms. Taliaferro. No device will be permitted to be demonstrated if unsafe conditions are obvious or become apparent during the demonstration. Duct tape is not allowed in construction process.

During this project I feel that I have learned a fair amount of concepts and reinforced the ones that I had previously learned. Like the slow feed, rapid traverse fluid power circuit. Also it helped me remember how to use electrical components that I had forgotten from last year, such as control relays. If I could anything differently I would use my time a bit more wisely and come in after school and finished up some building before we left for Christmas break. This would have allowed for more time to test the project to make sure it worked and everything was in place. As well as find away to secure the wires down to the board because every time we moved the project a wire would come lose and this was one of the reasons it did not work during the testing. To improve our design I would have made the structure that presses the CAM in stronger because the CAM was very hard to press in and was bending the structure. Additionally, I would have made the bin the robot had to get the ball out of easier for the robot to reach, since during testing we could not get it to reach the bin since it was so low. I believe I worked well with my team member and we both contributed to the planning and construction of the project. As far as time management goes I feel that we used our time in class well and got as much work done as possible, but again we could have benefited from finishing more before the break to have more time for testing. Meeting the deadline was probably our biggest issue because before the break we thought we didnt have that much to do and we didnt, but we did not account for the problems we had a that took away our time. Overall this project was good learning experience and next year I will defiantly set and earlier deadline for myself so I will have time to fix problems.

This assignment was the first thing we did in health/PE. I believe it symbolizes my performance in the class as well as what the class actually pertained to. The concept of what is health? was the main goal of the class and from the first day to the last day we learned to much towards the answer to that question. Back

This class was a rather fun class that combined classroom learning with actual physical activity. In the classroom we did many projects which greatly enhance my knowledge of human health. In the gym, we did many activities that were entertaining and allowed me to grow in my relationships with friends and get a good work out as well. My favorite part was learning how to play volleyball which has inspired me to play in college to this day. I believe that I performed very well in this class and put forth a good effort.

This assignment was not only one of my favorites but it was also on of the more important in the class. It not only taught us about specific computer applications but it allowed students to build their presentation skills. I was instructed to design a presentation about alternative input devices. My PowerPoint turned out very well and this assignment shows my effort in the class. Back

This class was very beneficial to me in that it taught me how to create professional documents like memos, rsums, and cover letters. This class also greatly advanced my typing skills with the microtype program. I enjoyed this class because it was very relaxed and social, but also challenging and forced me to get work done. My favorite part was creating a presentation for Alternative Input Devices. Overall, I believe I did well in this class and put forth a good effort.

This assignment was a basic Spanish test but it was crucial to the future of my Spanish classes. This test was about basic present tense subject pronouns and ar verbs. Those two concepts would be very significant in my future Spanish classes. Also the grade I received accurately represents the overall performance in that class.

Spanish was a rather easy class to me cause I had already taken a Spanish class in middle school and I already knew the basics. I thought the class was relaxing and entertaining, as well as informative. We had a new teacher so it was a little slow going at first but it eventually picked up. My favorite part was creating a Lego town with a partner for a group project. Overall, I think I did very well in the class, and even though it was a little too relaxed at times, I still worked hard.

This assignment was one of my favorite assignments in the class. We were instructed to create a shield with different values in the sections of the shield. This is a good representation of the non-educationlike values we learned in the class and allowed us to blossom creatively.

English was one of my favorite classes of Freshman year because we had a great combination of class work, projects, and free time. We did a lot of entertaining activities and wrote many interesting essays that pushed imagination and creativity. The teacher did a wonderful job at incorporating grammar and vocabulary into a very mythological-based curriculum. My favorite part was when we got to create a presentation based off of a Greek god. I greatly enjoyed this class and I believe that I performed very well.

This quiz was a very important quiz to my future in math in that it incorporated concepts that would be very useful in upper level math classes. Trigonometry is used a lot in my current math classes so this quiz was very useful. Also, the grade may not have been amazing but my grade in the class overall was very good.

This class was not a hard class for me because Ive never struggled with basic math. It was a rather boring class and not as engaging as I wouldve hoped. I found myself losing interest despite my high grade in the class. There was one project in which we got to integrate with students in the graphics pathway and create a presentation about a shape. That project was rather fun but it was still hard to do. Overall, I believe I did very well but my efforts couldve been better.

Although this assignment was very chemistry oriented, it was extremely beneficial to learning the curriculum and developing skills that would lead to a good background in chemistry. This assignment was a good introduction to bonds and formulas that would be utilized in future science classes.

Earth science was a really laid back class but also very informative. I thought the class participation couldve been better as a whole but I still put enough into the class to make a good grade. The work was time consuming and the class required a lot of reading but it was worth it. My favorite part was creating a play-doh mold of a topographic map. I believe this class helped me to understand science better. Overall, I think I performed very well in this class.

This assignment was a free response question about Columbuss voyage to the Americas. This was extremely beneficial to our thought development. Also, this would lead the way in helping us prepare for future free response questions. I did rather well on the assignment which shows my performance in that class as well as my readiness for future class work.

World history was not my favorite class because it required a lot of reading. I am good at memorizing information but I cant stand reading so it was very hard to stay motivated at times. It was very helpful, though, at preparing me for future classes because it incorporated free response questions and encouraged student participation. My favorite part was creating a display of a type of world religion to present to the class. Overall, this class was very helpful and I believe I did very well at staying focuses and achieving a good grade.

Spreadsheets were a big portion of the curriculum in Computer Apps. This assignment was very important to the overall improvement in the realm of spreadsheets. It allowed to us to understand basic calculations that a spreadsheet was capable of making and allowed us to develop skills that would be used later in life.

Computer Applications was basically an extension of Digital Communication Systems. I thought it was a rather easy class although everything was rather time consuming. I was pleased with how the teacher made the class reasonably bearable even though the curriculum was somewhat dry at times. We played a decent amount of review games that were very entertaining and beneficial as well. My favorite part was when my group was instructed to create a brochure for another teachers actual wedding. Overall, I believe I performed very well and I enjoyed this class.

This Spanish assignment was very important because it incorporated a part of the curriculum that many people struggled with. The difference between the words por and para were very hard to grasp for even me but this quiz was a great success and was crucial in my future of Spanish.

Spanish 2 was a lot like Spanish 1 to me. We did a lot of review because we had many students in the class rather low participation levels. I honestly did not learn as much as I wanted in that class. In fact, I cant really remember what my favorite part was. I remember having a lot of substitutes and doing a few projects but I cant really name a specific favorite assignment. I did perform very well for the limited amount of work we did.

English 10 had a lot of assignments that were meant to simply bring students to a different level of thinking. This assignment combined a different level of thinking with the skill of essay writing. Essay writing was very important to not only this class but also the SAT and ACT, both of which would help in getting into college. This assignment created a chance for students to creatively write an essay, all the while in a personal way seeing how the essay was about the meaning of ones name.

English was a very fun class and was extremely relaxed at times. We did a lot of work with short stories and essays. I probably wrote more essays in that class than I will the rest of my life but it has proved beneficial to me in the long run. We also did a lot of projects; one of which was the name project in which we learned what the meaning of our name is. My favorite part of this class was making a mock Jerry Springer episode to model the short story Gilgamesh. Overall, I greatly enjoyed this class and I believe I performed very well.

One of the more challenging topics we were instructed to learn about wads logarithms and exponents. For some reason, I struggled with them more than any other concept. This test on that concept shows my determination to grasp the subject and surpass expectations. This was very important to my future in algebra classes as well.

As Ive said before, my favorite subject is math so this class was a very enjoyable and somewhat easy class. Somehow the teacher made the class very challenging but feasible to complete. At first the class was a little difficult because it had been two years since I had done any sort of algebra, but it eventually came back to me and I was able to power through the class. My favorite part was doing the potato head review games because they were helpful for review but they were also fun; if you won you received fruit snacks so I also enjoyed that.

Although biology was not my favorite subject, I was able to excel in the class. This quiz shows my ability to overcome a challenging subject. Also, this quiz incorporated vocabulary that was very relative to biology so excelling in this test was very crucial.

Biology was a reasonably hard for class, even for my standards. It had a lot of information and terms to remember which made it somewhat hard to keep up with. There were many days that consisted of purely notes which made the class somewhat dry at times but there were a few projects that were entertaining. One project in particular that I enjoyed what the cell model project in which I created a model of a cell with Styrofoam and different types of candy as the components of the cell. Overall, I believed I performed very well in this class.

This vocabulary quiz encompassed many basic terms that were very important to the rest of the class. The understanding of vocabulary is very important in general to Civics class so doing well on this quiz was crucial. Also, the terms on this quiz and others like it would be used in concepts in AP Government so understanding these concepts was a necessity.

This class was a very informative class because I did not know much about the U.S. Government or Economics before this class. We did a lot of work dealing with the branches of government as well as the history of it. A lot of time was spent reviewing key pieces of knowledge with games and such. We also did a President of the day. The class was a little dry at times but the quality of work was sufficient. My favorite part of this class was learning the amendments. Overall I enjoyed this class and I believe I did very well.

This quiz was very important to statistics because it incorporated all of the concepts that we had learned throughout the year. The normal curve was used in great amounts and using it we were able to create significance tests upon multiple sets of data and find out different probabilities of different situations.

Statistics was unlike any math class I had ever taken. In my opinion, it was almost like an English-like version of math. There was a lot of new concepts that one had to learn as well as a lot of applications one had to make. The class took a lot of real life scenarios and used math in them. Specifically, when it came to probability and testing the significance of something. Learning the normal curve was probably the most important part of the class. My favorite part was doing the Bean Experiment and completing a significance test to see if ones dominant hand is faster than the other. Overall, I greatly enjoyed this class and did very well.

Just as it was introduced in earlier classes, free response questions were very common in Government. Being able to organize youre thoughts and answer questions in your own words was very important to this class and many other classes. I was pretty good at free response questions but I believe I improved greatly in my abilities to organize my thoughts.

This class was like Civics but on steroids. There was ten times more information and reading. We learned a lot about political systems and concepts from parties to political action committees. I have used the knowledge gained from this class to form my own political basis I have today. There was a good mix of projects and readings, and the testing was very fair because we got to use our notes we took. We also did a current event every week which allowed us to apply the information we learned from the class to real world problems. Although it was very hard, I still managed to do very well.

This piece is a test on imperfect tense regular ar verbs. As stated in earlier Spanish classes, the ability to understand tenses is very important and as the tenses change, so do the endings of the verbs so being able to was not only important to future concepts, but the general skill of speaking Spanish. Doing well on this quiz shows how I was able to excel at mastering concepts and would lead to my success in future Spanish classes.

This class was a major step up from the first two Spanish classes I took. There was much more work involved and it required ones undivided attention. I was struggling at first because of the huge jump in intensity but I eventually got it and was able to make it through the class successfully. Not only did we do a lot of work with tenses and vocabulary, but we also read the story Lazarillo de Tormes completely in Spanish so we had to translate it and then complete tests on it. It was hard work but it was very beneficial to improving my Spanish skills. Overall I believe I did very well in this class.

Seeing how we did a seminar about once or twice a week, this was a pretty common assignment. We were graded on our ability to conduct a professional seminar with other classmates. This ability is very important not only for this class but also to excelling in the professional world. This specific seminar was about the Jonathan Edwards speech Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God.

English 11 leaves a bad taste in my mouth because I did not enjoy this class very much. Our first assignment was reading The Scarlet Letter over the summer. The book was hard to read because it was in an older style of writing. There were a lot of stories that I had a hard time reading but I did greatly enjoy reading The Great Gatsby because of the themes and storyline. Other than that, my favorite part was doing a Scarlet Letter project with some friends involving voice recordings of some characters. Overall, I did rather well although it was not the most entertaining class.

This test was not only my best test grade, but it was also one of the most important tests we took in the class. Trigonometry is a very crucial concept and I was able to grasp it quite well as shown by the grade. My performance on this test was an accurate representation of how I did in the class overall and this test would prove beneficial to future classes.

Pre-calculus was a very interesting class and it almost seemed fun to me. As stated before Ive always enjoyed math and this class was good at giving challenging work but also allowing some sort of entertainment. The teacher did a wonderful job at displaying the information in a relaxing and easily understood way. We did a lot of work dealing with Trigonometry functions which I struggled with at first but soon became a second language to me. We also did a lot of reviewing when it came to testing which helped out greatly. Overall, this class was very beneficial and I enjoyed it.

This lab in Chemistry was about chemical bonds and the reactions that result from the reaction. We were to simulate the expansion of an airbag using actual chemicals that are involved in an airbags inflation. Using our knowledge of chemicals and formulas we created a lab summary and procedure. This was important to my future in chemistry classes as well as my ability to organize thoughts.

Chemistry just seemed to make sense to me. From the beginning, when we learned about individual types of chemicals and bonds, to when we learned about different parts of the individual atom, it all made perfect sense. I made a perfect score on most tests and usually enjoyed class. We also did a few labs that were very interesting. One of my favorites was one where we created a chemical reaction to expand and bag. It was very interesting to me to see how chemical reactions could change the color and temperature of a substance. Overall, I enjoyed this class and I believe I did very well.

US History was all about vocabulary. If you knew the vocab that went with certain events than you knew history. All of the things that we learned were based off of the vocabulary we did. We would do the vocab every week, take a quiz, and then study the material. All of the work that we did with the vocabulary would then lead to the test so success on the vocab quizzes were very important to success on the tests.

U.S. History was probably one of the more fun classes Ive taken. The teacher did a wonderful job at adding humor and sarcasm to our history in this country. We learned a lot about each President including specific courses of action he would take. The class had a lot of quizzes so the concept of memorization was crucial in that class. There was also a lot of review sessions that helped. We also had vocabulary every week which was strenuous and tedious but it greatly helped when it came to quizzes. Overall, this class was long and stressful but it was entertaining at the same time.

The concepts of derivatives is a very reoccurring theme in calculus so understand and being able to efficiently use them is very important. This quiz demonstrates my ability to completely grasp new concepts. The ability to do well with derivatives would prove beneficial later in calculus and Im certain will be useful in the next calculus course I take at Highland.

Calculus was rather simple at first but it picked up over time. We started out with limits and moved on to derivatives. Both were rather easy but they got more complicated and complex as we progressed through the semester. The teacher did a great job at making the material easy to digest because everything seemed to make sense pretty quickly. The class is hard work and at times I feel stuck but as with most math classes I figure it out eventually. Thus far into the year, I am enjoying this class and doing very well.

Thus far in Advanced Studies, this class has been rather easy going and fun. We have done a lot of professional work and it had allowed me to think about my future when it comes to my career aspirations and such. So far weve done a lot of work that lead to a mock interview for a career of our choice. I chose to be a neurologist which was really hard to interview for because I dont have much background in medical. Fortunately, I did very well in the interview. So far, I enjoy this class.

During the first six weeks, the class was instructed to create a mock Quinceaera and take on the multiple roles that it would entail. We each had a different part and were expected to contribute to the overall performance, as well as understand and appreciate the vocabulary. All of the concepts and vocab were incorporated in the performance in order to give the guests a sneak peak into what one would actually be like.

Spanish 4 is not as stressful as the previous Spanish class because it is a joint class. We have been doing a lot of review of previous skills and concepts which has been rather easy but the new concepts will get tougher. My favorite part was completing a mock Quinceaera. The Quinceaera involved a realistic routine including dances and rituals. We also had a buffet and music so I greatly enjoyed this project. So far, I enjoy this class.

Although English has always been a struggle for me, this quiz was a major success. We read three short stories in unit 1 and were expected to completely grasp all of the stories in detail. I believe that I did a sufficient job at understanding them. This was also the first test we took in the class so it was very important to do well on this test.

English 12 has been a step up from the previous English classes Ive had. Weve read Beowulf and The Canterbury Tales. I enjoyed both stories and the transition from old English literature to middle English literature. We also have done a good bit of grammar work. Every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday we work to identify different components of a sentence. We also have vocabulary due every Monday. My favorite part was the project in which we created our own version of The Canterbury Tales.

I was a member of the tennis team all four years at Highland. I was ranked #3 my freshman year, #2 my sophomore year, and #1 my junior and senior year. I was also team captain my junior year as well as MVP and an All-Conference player. We were runner-ups at dual-team Regionals my junior year.

Playing for the tennis team has been a great experience at Highland. It has allowed me to build relationships with friends, all the while playing the game I love. It has taught me a great deal about team leadership and working together to achieve a goal. It has substantially built my ability to trust other teammates and help others to improve. Playing tennis has also helped me manage my time better with all the tough classes I was taking. I will greatly miss playing for this school.

I have been a member of the soccer team since my sophomore year and played goalkeeper my senior year. My senior year I was a team captain as well. I have scored a total of one goal my entire high school career but I have saved many more my senior year.

Playing on the soccer team has been very fun for me. I have learned a lot about accepting defeat as well as making strong efforts to get better as a team. It has allowed me to handle nervousness in intense situations and helped me understand how to be relied on. My senior year, I played goalkeeper, which has taught me how to be a definite leader on the field. I believe that soccer has greatly benefitted me in time management skills and perseverance. Allow a struggle at times, I greatly enjoyed playing for the Highland soccer team.

I played JV basketball my junior year and started as the center. I was leader on the team on and off the court. Basketball was a very intense sport.

Playing basketball really taught me the meaning of accepting a loss. We did not win many games during the year mainly because of a few key factors. First off, I was the tallest player on the team. Being only six feet tall, it was a struggle out on the court. Also, our team was greatly inexperienced and small in general, so the fast paced action was a little too much for us sometimes. Although we had hardships, basketball was very important at improving my leadership and my ability to be a motivator. I had a lot of fun playing and I am happy to have been a part of that team.

I ran on the cross country team my junior and senior years at Highland. I have participated in many races and ran a personal best of 21:12. I have consistently ran varsity (top 7) times my senior year and participated in the All-County Meet my junior and senior year.

Cross country has been a great experience overall. It has allowed me to see that success should not be measured by how you compare to others, but how you compare to yourself. Through much self improvement, I have reached a personal best time my senior year and established a placed in the top 7 runners. Cross country has taught me a great deal of perseverance and determination when it comes to reaching a goal. Cross country has probably been one of the sporting events Ive ever partook in.

have been a member of HOSA my junior and senior year. My junior year I participated in HOSA regionals and came in second place for the Extemporaneous Speaking Event I attended HOSA states for Extemporaneous Speaking. I took part in a HOSA Charity event by going to Holy Angels and performing Christmas activities with the mentally challenged.

Every Friday, I partner with some friends and buy milkshakes from Cookout to bring to the local Salvation Army to give to the residents.
During Sunday mornings, I work in the kitchen in my churchs youth center and make pancakes for middle school students before the service.

Looking back on my years at Highland and the activities and classes I took part in, I can only smile. All the priceless information I learned and friendships gained will forever hold a place within my heart. All the teachers and staff members gave me something that I will never forget. All the clubs and sporting events were amazing and the classes were spectacular. I have no doubt that going to Highland was one of the greatest decisions of my life. The people, the teachers, and the environment cannot be beat. I will sincerely miss Highland, and I will never forget the days spent inside this school.

My future, as of now, is undetermined. I plan to go to 4 year University but as of now, I am unsure which one I want to go to and what I want to major it. I have applied to Princeton, Georgia Tech., NC State, UNC Chapel Hill, and UNC Charlotte. I was also nominated for the Park Scholarship at NC State so that will be a huge factor in determining where I go to college. All I do know is that I have high hopes for the future. I believe my experiences at Highland have given me a huge step up when it comes to my future education. I hope that wherever I do go, I can succeed, but I know that wherever I go, I will certainly try my best to succeed.

Cutter compensation allows one to program in the actual geometry of the path and generate a proper tool path that follows the path needed to create the geometry. This program shows the tool path of a tensile strength test specimen

Created using Contour Toolpath with Cutter Compensation. This part is used as a test specimen for tensile testing which is a fundamental material test in which a sample is subjected to tension until failure.
