CST Preparation & Review

About The Test

The test is very important to determine the classes we go into next year. The test is usually taken in the month of April or May. Our goal in San Fernando M.S is to get 711-or above, at least around the proficient or advanced area.

How Ive Prepared For The CST

One way we have prepared is by studying and paying attention in class. Another way is we have tried to learn extra Algebra 1 outside of school. Review the Algebra we all ready know about.

How SFMS Teachers Have Prepared Me For The CST

Our Algebra teacher has been giving us tips & test that are related the CST questions. Another way is by reviewing the tests and homework they gives us. Also we have been getting review notebooks to prepare us for the CST.

Test Taking Tips: Before Test

Get some rest before the big day. Study and review the teachers homework. Make sure to review the problems or lessons you dont know with your teachers. Eat a good and nutritious meal in the morning.

Test Taking Tips: During Test

Skip the questions you dont understand or are difficult for you. Make sure you have a piece of paper to work out problems. Make sure to be focused and concentrated. Make sure your comfortable. Double check the test and your answers.

Math Tips

If you are stuck on a problem, go on with the rest of the test. If you cannot determine the answer to a question, make a guess. Always read math problems completely before beginning any calculations. If you need to draw out a diagram, do so. Before taking the test, make sure you review the problems that seem difficult.

English Tips

Make sure to use correct grammar and spelling. Read the questions before reading the passage. Eliminate the answers that are obviously incorrect. Make sure to study definitions of words for CST. Make sure to read the passage careful, make sure you understand the passage.

Word Problems

For word problems, you can solve by using the bar method. You can also underline the keywords to help you solve. You use an equation, for example; x+y=c. Plug in your answer. Double check your answer.

Quadratic Equations

Use the quadratic formula. Make sure to plug in the number to the quadratic equation. When you graph, you get a parabola.

Example

(13x+5) + (186x+147) Step 1: Combine like terms. 13x+186x=199x, 147+5=202 Step 2: Solve 199x+202 Step 3: Final Solution: 199x+202

Capitalization

Capitalization is very important on a test. Just for not capitalizing one word, you can get the whole question wrong. Many words need to capitalized in a sentence, like, the beginning of a sentence, a persons name, etc. Capitalization is also very important in the business world. In order to get a job, you need to know how to fill in a form, with capitalization.
