Synopsis
Chapter three is descripting on how a father attempts to communicate and understanding his sons dream and voluntary. From beginning of the story, the son, Mali dropped out of school in order to complete his volunteer. Mali stopped his study from college and try to become a writer. However the father, Jagan, cannot understood what was his son thinking about. He believed that only continue and completed the study is the way to getting a bright future. In Jagans mind, writer meant only one thing - a clerk.

Both of the father and son have difference view with the decision of Mali. Jagans cousin advice Jagan not to be too stubborn. Jagans cousin try to persuade he not to jump to a conclusion too early. Become a writer also can get a bright future. Jagan was persuaded by his cousin, he try to find out the reason why his son make such a decision and start to understand his son. After Jagan understood his son, he began to be proud of his son and start to look forward to his achievementas.

Time - From early morning till night. Place - At home , Sweet Mart ( Jagans shop ) Social conditions Middle class economy

Character
1. Jagan - Fifty - five years old .Owner of a candy shop ( Sweet Mart ) and have a son,Mali. A father which is very care about and love his son. 2. Mali - Son of Jagan . Refuse to continue his study at college and want to become a writer.He want to participate in a novels competition and win the prize worth of twenty-five thousand rupees.

3. Cousin - Cousin of Jagan. A man who always visit Jagan and taste his sweet. He is also the person who advise Jagan try to understand Mali and accept his decision .
