BANDRA WORLI SEA LINK

SUBMITTED BY : NAVID.PEVEKAR

INTRODUCTION.
Western Freeway Sea Link During the past two decades the existing western corridor stretching from Bandra to Cuffe Parade has become highly congested and the traffic levels having already reached saturation level need immediate solution. The construction of Bandra Worli Sea Link taken up by MSRDC is a partial solution to the problem and appreciable relief can be achieved if the sea link is further extended up to Nariman Point with a connector linking Cuffe Parade. The proposed Western Freeway is a north - south sea link connecting the Worli end of Bandra Worli Sea Link (BWSL) to Nariman Point with a dispersal link connecting Cuffe Parade. The alignment runs over major bridges keeping the shoreline at about 150 meters from Worli Hill and there after across the bay upto Nariman Point.

PROJECT BACKGROUND.
Bandra Worli Sea Link Project has been one of the most highly recommended project of all the transport studies done for the metropolitan region. At present, Mahim Causeway is the only link connecting the western suburbs with the island city of Mumbai. Therefore this existing North South traffic corridor is very congested and during the peak hours results in a bottleneck at Mahim Causeway.

An 8-lane bridge with 2 lanes dedicated for buses. Unique bridge design for the Link Bridge to emerge as a land mark structure in the city. Single tower supported 500 meters long Cable Stayed Bridge at Bandra Channel and Twin tower supported 350m Cable Stayed Bridge at Worli Channel for each carriageway. Modern toll plaza of 16 lanes with automated toll collection system. An intelligent bridge with state - of - art systems for traffic monitoring, surveillance, information and guidance, instrumentation, emergency support etc. Development of promenade and landscaping to enhance the environment.
