Mission Statement

Set-up in 1966, It has played a significant role in the evolution of the Indian gem and jewellery industry to its present stature. In last 4 decades industry has grown from US $28 million in 196667 to US $39.03 billion in FY 2012-13 Has 5300 members spread all over the country

The Councils primary objective is to promote and thereby enhance exports of gems and jewellery from India. To provide guidance and information to members To liaise between the trade and government on issues pertaining to the industry. To advise the Indian government on matters pertaining to the industry. To provide training and R & D support for the development of the trade. To facilitate contacts between Indian and foreign businessmen.

One of Indias leading foreign exchange earning sector. Diamonds account for 54 percent of the total export basket of the industry, with gold jewellery contributing 38 percent and coloured gemstones contributing 1 percent each whereas rough diamonds contribute 4 percent of the total share. The Indian industry has received a boost from the tradefriendly regime ushered in by the government. Most recently, it is the jewellery sector that India has made brilliant impact, emerging as the fastest growing jewellery exported in the world, averaging a growth of nearly 15-20 per cent each year over the last decade.
