SETTING

During our research, we identified that a classic trope of Romantic Dramas was a natural environment in which the characters romantic relationship is given an opportunity to flourish . In the trailers of Romanic Dramas that were researched such as 500 Days of Summer, we identified that in the trailer, the central protagonist and their love interests were typically shown in a external setting.

In our production Show Me Love We used the convention of the couple in the idyllic natural setting, however in our production we developed the idea. This was through our choice to show the two characters in a wide shot walking towards the camera which positions them in a closer proximity to the audience. The lack of distance between the audience and the character suggests that the protagonist and his love interest current situation are relatable to the audience. Whereas in 500 Days of Summer, the characters are focused on each other, further separating them from the audience.

CONSTRUCTION OF NARRATIVE
In our production, we used the narrative of a love/hate relationship to build a relationship between the two characters that would show a great contrast of personality, but eventually portray a mutual recognition between the two of them. In The 2012 Romantic Drama Now Is Good, the male protagonist attempts several times to initiate romantic conversation, however the main character Tessa prevents their relationship from developing until eventual relenting to her emotions. We used this construction of narrative in Show Me Love as it is usually takes place when emotions are intense. This echoes the strong emotions between the two main characters in Now Is Good., In comparison to Now Is Good, our coursework production has a more intricate and complex relationship, as the female character Maisie was inherently disinclined to feel anger towards Cain because of his flippant attitude towards the community service and his lack of remorse at his previous crimes, however once they come to understand each other the barrier of dislike breaks down.

CONSTRUCTION OF CHARACTER
In Show Me Love, the central protagonist Cain is shown smoking in the first shot of the trailer. The concentration of a young adult smoking typically has few wider connotations other than a lifestyle choice. However, in our coursework production, this constructs his character as confused and angry as he adopts a habit that he is fully aware is detrimental to his health yet it defines his character as rebellious and defiant. In the films that we researched, whenever a character was shown smoking it was usually a sign of rebellion against an authoritative figure such as the character of Tessa in Now Is Good. She triumphantly announces that she smoked mushrooms, which is seen as an accomplishment that she can cross off her bucket list. We challenged this convention in our production, as Cain has no reason to smoke yet he does it frequently as a casual past time which adds to his physical persona of the rebellious young adult. Whereas, Tessa smokes in one single event so that she can accomplish as many things as possible before her inevitable death.

SPECIAL EFFECTS
In our trailer we used a similar effect of manipulating time to show the way in which it elapses. This is a typical convention of trailers as lengths of time are condensed. In 500 Days of Summer, time is condensed showing the movement of cars which has been speeded up, this is done with a sound bridge following the previous scene when the female protagonist says Life. The use of the fats motion in the 500 Days of Summer trailer displays life in its fleeting and transient state.

The use of effects in our trailer enabled us to show the passage of time in Cains character development. Near the end of the trailer, the protagonist Cain is shown in a Medium Close Up. We developed the convention of fast motion to portray the movement of life and time by using a time lapse on the shot of a character instead of a moving image. As a result, this allowed to dually present time passing by and the Within the frame, Cain's movements are slowed which fragments his movement from the left to a central position and then to the right. Not only does this effect elongate time, but the time lapse represents Cains personalities which are hidden beneath his exterior.
