Ø Electronic commerce (EC or e-commerce) describes the
process of buying, Selling, transferring, or exchanging
products, services, and/or information via Computer
networks, including the Internet.
Ø E-business refers to a broader definition of EC, not just
the buying and selling of goods and services, but also
servicing customers, collaborating with business
partners, conducting e-learning, and conducting
electronic transactions within an organization.

 Business-to-business comprises about 85 percent of EC
volume.
 It covers a broad spectrum of applications that enable an
enterprise to form electronic relationships with its
distributors, resellers, suppliers, customers, and other
partners.

per cent every year for the last few years.

i.e. 2008 was Rs 809 billion (US$ 17.3
billion), out of which software exports

 In keeping with global norms, it is expected

continue to constitute a major chunk of e-

 Researchers have suggested that with careful
planning to reach profitability quickly, many
click-and-mortar companies are likely to
succeed.
 Joint ventures and partnerships are very valuable,
and planning for satisfactory infrastructure and
logistics to meet high demand is needed.
 The world average of tele density is 15 per cent
compared to the developed world average of 55
to 60 per cent
 A developing country can become industrialized
and modernized if it can extensively apply IT to
enhance productivity and international 24
competitiveness, develop e-commerce and e-
governance applications.
