Two of the hottest teams in MLS took the pitch at RFK
Stadium on Sunday evening, but the hosts would find
the right formula for cooling off Chivas, with an
Eddie Johnson penalty kick, a Perry Kitchen strike
and Luis Silva insurance to record the 3-1 victory.

Uniteds Chris Rolfe found himself at the top of the box
and fooled Ecuadorian international Oswaldo Minda,
who awkwardly took Rolfe down. The ref pointed to the
spot immediately, and Johnson buried the ensuing
penalty kick passed Chivas keeper Dan Kennedy.

In the 60
th
minute, Kitchen doubled Uniteds lead when
Rolfe bent a 30-yard free kick into the box towards
Johnson who headed it coolly into the path of Kitchen.
Kitchen then laced a low shot towards the near post
leaving Kennedy no chance.

United tallied their third goal of the game in the 70
th

minute, when Chris Korb played Silva in who curled his
shot across the face of goal into the far side netting. The
goal capped a 14-pass movement by United.

Chivas finally responded with a goal from the spot
converted by Erick Torres. The penalty was created when
Steve Birnbaum had taken down Chivas midfielder
Mauro Rosales in the box. The goal was Torres 14
th
of
the year, but Chivas never seemed a capable of
mounting the comeback.
