Current Installed Capacity : 232.64 GW
5th largest in the world
Low per capita electricity consumption
India 778.1 kWh(2012)
China 2500 kWh
Energy deficit ~ 25%
Energy security concerns
57% power from coal-based thermal plants - need to depend on imports
35.5% of Indian population still lives without electricity and 56% of these rural
households are still not electrified
Home energy consumption is increasing continuously at a CAGR of 9.4% annually with
the increase in the production being just 5.6%
Net electricity generation required in 2025-2035 : 1950 Bn units
Per capita electricity consumption is expected to be ~ 1400 kWh by 2020-25
India is one of the world's fastest growing energy market and is expected to be the
second-largest contributor to the increase in global energy demand by 2035
Thermal projects contribute for about 57% of total energy produced in India
India's dependence on energy imports is expected to exceed 53% of the country's total

The current penetration of AC is 3% and is expected to reach
22% by 2020 and 47% by 2030
The current market size of AC is 17.5 Mn and is expected to
cross 128.34 Mn by 2020 and 273.67 Mn by 2030
There is no other Home Appliance which will have such
increase in demand in coming 15 Years
If the government do not adopt the stringent energy saving rule
it has to set up 150 units of 500MW power plants only to
support the ACs installed by 2030
LED LAMP
Consists of
LED(light
emmiting diode)
as the source of
luminescence.
A substitute to
electric bulbs,
CFLs and tube
lights.
LED Market demand and forecast

According to ElectroniCast, the consumption value of
LED lamps in India is forecast to reach $491 million in
the year 2017, representing an average annual growth
rate of 59.4 percent (2012-2017).

LEDs would be having a market share of about 57% by
2017. Currently it is just 1.9%.
