WHAT IS WITRICITY?


Witricity is nothing but wireless electricity

Transmission of electrical energy from one object to another
without the use of wires is called Witricity.

Because of Witricity some of the devices wont require
batteries to operate .

Witricity will ensure that the cell phones, laptops, iPods and
other power hungry devices get charged on their own,
eliminating the need of plugging them in.


History of Wireless Power

In 1899, Sir Nikola Tesla Proposed
a method of Wireless Power
Transmission.
Able to light lamps over 25 miles
away without using wires
As it is in Radiative mode, most of
the Power was wasted and has less
efficiency.




Rebirth : MITs Experiment
In 2006,5 members team of researchers of MIT
experimentally demonstrated transfer
electricity with out wires

They were able to lit a 60W bulb ,from a source
placed 7 feet away with absolutely no physical
contact between the bulb and the power.

Electricity is a general term that encompasses a variety of phenomena
resulting from the presence and flow of electric charge.

Magnetism is a force that acts at a distance due to a magnetic field. This
field is caused by moving electrically charged particles or is inherent in
magnetic objects such
as magnet.

Electromagnetic induction is the
production of voltage across a
conductor moving through a magnetic
field.
Electromagnetism :
It is one of the four fundamental
interactions of nature, along with strong
interaction, weak interaction and
gravitation. It is the force that causes the
interaction between electrically charged
particles; the areas in which this happens
are called electromagnetic fields

Energy/Power Coupling :
Energy coupling occurs when an energy
source has a means of transferring energy
to another object
Resonance :
It is the tendency of a system to oscillate
with larger amplitude at some frequencies
than at others. These are known as the
system's resonant frequencies (or resonance
frequencies). At these frequencies, even
small periodic driving forces can produce
large amplitude oscillations

Resonant Magnetic Coupling:
Magnetic coupling occurs when two objects
exchange energy through their varying or
oscillating magnetic fields. Resonant
coupling occurs when the natural
frequencies of the two objects are
approximately the same.
How Witricity works ?
The electric power from the power source causes the copper coil connected
to it to start oscillating at a particular (MHz) frequency.

The space around the copper coil gets filled with nonmagnetic radiations.

This generated magnetic field further
transfers the power to the other copper
coil connected to the receiver of the
same frequency.

It starts oscillating at the same frequency
as the first coil.

This is known as coupled resonance' and
is the principle behind WiTricity

Witricity corporation is working to make this future a reality

developing wireless electricity technology that will operate safely and
efficiently over long distances ranging from m to km and will deliver
power ranging from mW to kW.

CONCLUSION

Witricity uses non-radiative magnetic resonant coupling to achieve
wireless power transfer over a million times more efficient than inductive
coupling.

The idea of using components natural resonant frequencies to couple
induction fields ensures efficient energy transfer and has global
applications.

We can envisage a future in which the world of wireless arrives with
witricity.
