NRITYAGARAM BANGALORE
Nrityagram is India's first modern Gurukul for Indian
classical dances and an intentional community in the
form of a dance village, set up by Odissi dancer Protima
Gauri in 1990. The residential school offers training in
Indian classical dance forms, Odissi, Mohiniattam,
Kathak, Bharatnatyam, Kuchipudi, Kathakali and
Manipuri
Scooped out of the red earth
and built along the lines of
Roman amphitheatres, this is
one of the most famous
structures at Nrityagram. It is
here that several thousand
people congregate every
February for the annual
Vasantahabba.
The center should cater to 45 students of dance and 45 for Design of this performing art
theater studies.

Only 30% of the site to be used as foot print of the building in a publicly used common and
crowded area involved a lot of
ways to seclude the structure from
the chaotic atmosphere but still
link it with its surroundings , thus
by making a spacial environment
inside the space.
DESIGN BRIEF:
A thoughtfully
evolved temple built
in 1998, welcomes
people to the
Nrityagram, near
Hesaraghatta Lake, it
depicts the image of
Kelucharan
Mohapatra, guru of
founder Protima Bedi
in a dancing pose.

Its situated in Jail Ground, Tamil Nadu Government property,
connected to Dr Nanjappa Road 24m wide
North side is connected with Gandhipuram bus stand, East side
to Jail complex, West to Dr Nanjappa road and South to
Tamilnadu Tourism
