DEFICIENCY OF BLOOD
Symptoms
General weakness due to consumption or
insufficiency of blood and malnutrition of the
whole body.

Example
Anemia
Clinical manifestation
Yellow or pale complexion, pale lips, dizziness,
blurring of vision, and pale tongue with white
coat, palpitations, insomnia, numbness of
limbs, light colored menses , weak pulse

Analysis
The main function of blood is to
moisten the whole body, inadequate
nutrition supply to the organism as a
result of blood deficiency causes
general weakness of the body, and
gives rise to many signs as listed above
Treatment
Objective : Replenished blood:
Jujube
Animal liver

STAGNATION OF BLOOD
Also known as blood stasis (Chinese:
Xue Yu)
Definition
Slowing or pooling of blood due to
disruption of Qi
Disorder involving blood coagulation,
trauma, Qi stagnation, and Qi deficiency
Incidence

Causes of blood stagnation


1. Qi stagnation
- due to pathogenic cold, causing blood stasis

2. Qi deficiency
- might occur after illness or exhaustion from
work

- impairing the free flow of blood (blood


circulate slowly)
3. Trauma, accident, surgery
- prevent free flowing of blood
- surgery or operation may result in
extravasations of blood

Clinical Manifestations
From mild to severe, may have very few
of them
1. Pain : sharp, deep, colicky
2. Blue, dark or purplish discoloration
3. Tendency to hemorrhage
4. Abdominal mass : Accumulation of
stagnation blood in the local area
forms abdominal mass which have
fixed positions and are firm when
palpated
5. Anxiety, restlessness, and insomnia

Treatment
Objective : Activate blood circulation to
eliminate stasis
Exercise
Eat good food
Guasha technique : scraping the surface of
body. It reveals the presence of blood stasis,
and by revealing it, allows it to move
Warming and cooling
Acupuncture : stimulate the bodys Qi to
move and lead the blood away from stasis
area
Herbs : Tumeric , Tibet safflower

BLOOD HEAT
The normal temperature of human blood
= about 70 C or 98.6 F
Definition
Refers to syndrome caused by exuberance of
fire and heat in the viscera that invades blood
phase
Cause
Extreme emotional disorder which transform
into fire
Excessive drinking of alcohol which transform
into heat and invades blood phase

Clinical Manifestation
1. Hemoptysis : due to impairment of
lung vessels by superabundance of
heat and fire
2. Hematemesis : due to impairment of
stomach vessels by superabundance
of heat and fire
3. Hematuria : due to impairment of
bladder vessels by superabundance of
heat and fire.
4. Bleeding (epistaxis, dental bleeding) :

Symptom Analysis

Various bleeding marked by sudden onset


Profuse quantity of blood
Deep red colour of blood : at tongue
Causing thirst
Rapid pulse

Treatment
Objective : eliminate heat, cool blood
Chrysanthemum
Herbs that cool the blood along with
haemostatic herbs to stop the bleeding
