CONTROL

INDUSTRIAL AUTOMATION
. plays important role in manufacturing industries
. Using mathematical & organizational methods ,creates complex systems
. Extensively use programmable logic controller
. A digital computer used for automation of Ind. Purposes like controlling
machinery, factory assembly lines
. PLC has multiple i/p and o/p
. programs are stored in non volatile memory
. o/p of PLC controls the machines, relays etc.,

Embedded systems

A computer system with dedicated function within a larger mechanical

or electrical system

All most all the fast developing sectors like automobile, aeronautics,
space, rail, mobile communications and electronic payment solutions
have witnessed increase use of embedded technologies.

Power control

Power control is intelligent selection of transmitter power o/p in a

communication system to achieve good performance within the system

Advanced Metering Infrastructure

Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI)are systems that measure, collect, and

analyze energy usage, and communicate with metering devices such as
electricity meters, gas meters, heat meters, and water meters, either on
request or on a schedule. These systems include hardware, software,
communications, consumer energy displays and controllers, customer
associated systems,Meter Data Management(MDM) software, and
supplier business systems.

The Good, The Bad and The Ugly:

SMART METER TECHNOLOGY

Advantages of Smart Meter

No more estimated bills you pay for what you use.

Readings are accurate and precise.

They come with energy monitors that allow you to better

check your energy usage, and make necessary changes.

It will also allow better energy budgeting and tracking

and personalized energy efficiency tips from the energy
company.

They allow for future improvements to energy tariffs

varying rates for different times of day for example,
helping you profit from cheaper electricity when demand
is lower.

Disadvantages of Smart meters

Smart meters present these challenges to the electric
company...

Transitioning to new technology and processes.

Managing public reaction and customer acceptance of the

new meters.

Making a long-term financial commitment to the new

metering technology and related software.

Managing and storing vast quantities of metering data.

Ensuring the security of metering data.

Smart meters pose these challenges to consumers...

Verifying

that the new meter is accurate.
