COLOUR

More than any element of

design , colour has the
ability to make us aware of
what we see ,for nothing
has meaning without
colour
Color is a form of to visual
communication. Its a basic
property of light. Form
and color are the two
basic elements in visual
communication Form
affects the intellect Color
affects the emotions

How do we see COLOUR

When light strikes a surface ,certain
wavelength are absorbed and others are
reflected (bounced back) by its pigment or
colouring matter. This process give the
surface its colour.

Additive
colours

Additive colours are colours

that are associated with
emitted light directly from a
source before an object
reflects the light. These
colours are red, green and
blue. These are the colours
we are probably most
familiar with in association
with television, and
computer displays.

Red, green and blue are the

primary colours of white
light. The combination of all
three of these colours will
result in white. This is called
Colour by addition and is
direct way to prove that all of
these three colours do
indeed come from white
light.

Also known as the RGB colour model.

additive deals with light, while
subtractive does not.

Subtractive
colours

This model is used widely to describe

colours in print.
Subtractive Colors: Colors created
by mixing paint (pigments) or printing
ink.
Adding more colors causes the color
to become darker.
The primary colors for Subtractive
mixing are Red, Yellow, and Blue. The
secondary colors consist of violet,
orange, and green.
Fact: The sum of all the colors of light
add up to white.
This is additive color theory.

COLOUR
Color is the byproduct of the spectrum of light, as it
is reflected or absorbed, as received by the human
eye and processed by the human brain. It's also a
great design element.

The world is full of light. Visible light is made of

seven wavelength groups. These are the colors
you see in a rainbow: red, orange, yellow,
green, blue, indigo, and violetthe Mr. ROY G.
BIV you might have been introduced to in
elementary school science. The reddish colors
are the long wavelengths. The greenish colors
are the mid-size wavelengths. The bluish color
are the short wavelengths.

Wheel

Basic tool for combining colors.

Designed by Sir Isaac Newton in
1666.

Primary, Secondary
and Tertiary Colors
Primary colors are red, yellow and blue. cannot
mix to get these colors
Secondary colors (green, orange and purple)
are created by mixing two primary colors.
orange, green, purple
primary + primary = secondary
red + yellow = orange
yellow + blue = green
blue + red = purple
Tertiary colors are created by mixing primary
and secondary colors. - red-orange, yelloworange, yellow-green, blue-green, blue-purple,
red-purple
primary + secondary = intermediate
