IF - CLAUSES
Have two parts : the if clause and the main clause
Also called conditional sentences
If it rains , I will stay at home
if clause main clause
Note : It doesnt matter which come first
I will stay at home if it rains.

TYPE 1
Used to refer to real or possible situations ( PLAN )

STRUCTURE :
If + Simple Present (v1) + Future (will +
v1 )

Example
Type 1
If I have money, I will buy that book.
If You come to my house, I will cook special
food.

TYPE 2
Used to refer an unreal, impossible or possible situation
(IMAGINATION)

STRUCTURE :
If + Simple Past (V2) + Conditional
( would + infinite without to/ v1 )

Type 2
If I were you, I would come to that party.
If she came on time, She would get that ticket.

TYPE 3

Condition not possible to fulfill (too late). Used to express regret

Structure :
If + Past Perfect (had +v3) + Past Future Perfect
( would have + v3)

Type 3
If he had driven carefully, he would have not got
accident.
If my mother had permitted me to go, I would have
attended that event.

Structure: If + Simple present, Simple
present
Function: to make statements about the real world, and refers to general
truth, i.e scientific facts, and also to give instructions and advices
Ex: If you freeze water, it becomes solid
