BLEACHING

Definition: Bleaching is defined as lightening of the colour of the tooth through the application of a
chemical agent to oxidize the organic pigmentation in the tooth .
BLEACHING AGENTS
Hydrogen peroxide 5-35 %
Sodium perborate
Carbamide peroxide 3-45 %

MECHANISM OF BLEACHING:Degradation of high molecular weight


complex organic molecules that reflect
a specific wavelength of light, that is
responsible for colour of stain. The
degraded products are of low molecular
weight that reflect less light resulting in
reduced discoloration.
