Structure Type: Residential

Green Approach: Use of local and inexpensive materials which cuts


transportation cost, and future residents helping in construction
which also reduces cost.

Notable Material/Construction Method: Used the EcoBeams system,


which used sand bags to replace brick-and-mortar in construction for
wall support and such.

Green Approach: Use of recyclable materials to promote recycling and


cleaning the landscape.

Notable Material/Construction Method: With the collection and usage


of beer bottles, namely Heineken and brown Chang, these bottles
were pushed into the walls, were cemented with other bottles to
form railings, and were used as roofing. Incorporation of bottle caps
to create mosaics and other designs inside the temple were done as
well.

Starbucks Drive-Thru

Location: Tukwila, Washington, USA

Green Approach: To reduce Starbucks environmental footprint,


reduce operational cost and energy use. They used old shipping
containers to form the structure itself, and used rainwater harvesting
methods to minimize water consumption.

Containers, xeriscaping (landscaping/gardening that reduces the use
of supplemental water for irrigation)

neighboring property. Use of local materials to reduce cost.

ensure low carbon emissions to reduce running costs.

Notable Material/Construction Method: The building has a brown roof


to enhance the biodiversity and assist with controlling peak storm
water run-off, angled cladding to give solar shading while allowing
good natural light and automatically opening windows to aid natural
cooling through the night.
