What is stress?
Definition: the bodys reaction to perceived pressures
and threats from the environment.
Causes of stress are called STRESSORS.
Stressors:
Stuck in traffic
Job interview
High school graduation
Having a birthday
A test
Peer pressure
Sports competition
Your reaction to stress = ANXIETY!
Experimental Design
This experiment is going to have a pre- and a poststress inventory test, with 7 weeks between the tests.
An example of a test question: rate on a scale of 0 3
how you are sleeping. 0 = not so good, 3 = good.
Between the two tests you will be asked to practise
belly breathing 1-2 time a day for 1-4 mins at a time for
5 weeks. To use your results, you must practice at least
5 times a week. (Participants will do breath work every
dance class = 5 times a week, but you can choose to do
it more like in the AM or PM before sleeping) or you will
be a control and do nothing in between the 2 tests.
After 7weeks, we will compare the two tests and breath
work group to control group.
