Puberty is the 3rd highest stressor on the
SOCIAL READJUSTMENT RATING SCALE.

What is stress?
Definition: the bodys reaction to perceived pressures
and threats from the environment.
Causes of stress are called STRESSORS.
Stressors:
Stuck in traffic
Job interview
High school graduation
Having a birthday
A test
Peer pressure
Sports competition
Your reaction to stress = ANXIETY!

Why breathwork works.


Practicing belly breath everyday helps reduce stress
in the body.
Learning to breathe when we start to feel stressed
can help us RESPOND to stress instead of REACT to
it.
Breathing when stressed is easier and more effective
when you practice it regularly!

Experimental Design

This experiment is going to have a pre- and a poststress inventory test, with 7 weeks between the tests.
An example of a test question: rate on a scale of 0 3
how you are sleeping. 0 = not so good, 3 = good.
Between the two tests you will be asked to practise
belly breathing 1-2 time a day for 1-4 mins at a time for
5 weeks. To use your results, you must practice at least
5 times a week. (Participants will do breath work every
dance class = 5 times a week, but you can choose to do
it more like in the AM or PM before sleeping) or you will
be a control and do nothing in between the 2 tests.
After 7weeks, we will compare the two tests and breath
work group to control group.

How to do the Experiment


Hand-in signed informed consent for to Mrs.
Zaseybida or Ms. Light asap.
*** EVERYONE - Do pre-test!

1. Do breath work in class and at home.

2. Fill out breath work checklist.

3. Do a weekly summary during class time.

4. At end of experiment, do a post-test.

Ms. LIGHT

1. One class after 3 weeks of a regular dance


fitness class will take the post-test.

2. One class after 7 weeks of a regular dance


fitness class will take the post-test.
***After post-test is completed a breath work program
can be implemented if class desires.
