GLOBAL WARMING

By Hannah Hawthorne
Biology 1010

History and Background

According to PBS global warming was brought to
the attention of the United States by British Prime
Minister Blair in September of 2004. Prime
Minister Blair made the global climate change one
of his main priorities, unfortunately President Bush
was not as persistent on the issue and instead
withdrew from the Kyoto Protocol and took little
measures and resolving the issue.

Kyoto Protocol
The Kyoto Protocol is an international agreement linked
to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate
Change, which commits its Parties by setting
internationally binding emission reduction targets.United Nations
The Goal of the Kyoto Protocol is to promote global
climate change prevention and bring awareness to the
environment impact our actions have.

A Political Issue
It is strange that the environment of all things could actually
be a political issue instead of just something inhabitants of
the Earth should just naturally worry about. So what turned
global warming into such a controversial topic. Naturally in
society there is a certain order to change and the
government standardly is the avenue where most changed
is first proposed. Unfortunately this also means that people
are going to hold prejudice based on who is promoting
what instead of just caring about the issue.

Why Does It Matter?

That being said why is it important to care about the
environment and it changing? Isnt it natural anyway...just
look at the ice age, humans didnt cause that!
The earth provides for all living organisms needs. Since
we are all connected in a web if the earth isnt the correct
temperature for certain species to survive then the entire
ecology of our environment is compromised. It can lead to
mass extinctions and put many other species in danger.

A Resolution
The best resolution for us is to personally lower our carbon footprint.
Simple solutions in doing so are:
cutting back on your homes greenhouse gas emissions
encouraging the building of environmentally friendly homes
reducing, reusing and recycling
choosing carbon-friendly food
shopping green
making positive changes at work
