Enjoying Playdough

T. Fauzia 12/16

Play-dough is one of our most favorite activities in our center. Almost every day at
some point the children ask "can we have play dough now?" Usually we tell them
play dough is in the afternoon, when we have free play today. Teacher Julie made
fresh play dough with the children. Zeinab came late in the center when her mom
left, she immediately joins around the play dough table. She did some ball shapes
with her hand and put those on the table. I asked Zeinab what are you making she
wasn't answering my question, I asked again, Zeinab looked at me finally and said
"chocolate", I asked how many are there, she counts and said "3". That was also
correct, I asked her to show the biggest and the smallest one, she pointed with her
finger, again correct. I have noticed that she doesn't mind sharing play dough toys
with other children. Play dough is a special educational tool in the preschool
program, where children can settle in while observing what else is happening around
the classroom. Children also develop vocabulary and social skills. Learning that is
happening here, Zeinab is developing hand, eye, improving social skills e.g.: sharing
and communicating with me and a few of her friends. She is also developing pre
math skills, eg: figuring out biggest and smallest and counting, most of all enjoying
something she likes to do. Well done Zeinab.
