Life 5. Ethics and Law Ethics are rules of conduct and comes from peoples awareness of what is right and wrong. Laws are made by governments in order to protect its citizens. Ethics does not carry any punishment to anyone who violates it. The law will punish anyone who happens to violate it. Ethics comes from within a persons moral values. Laws are made with ethics as a guiding principle. Ethics and Religion Religion gives believers a direction and motivation for moral behaviour and a system of meaning to support their ethical reflections What is considered right and wrong will vary from one religion to another but ideally followers of a religious tradition will act in accordance with its ethical system. Actively religious people are much more likely to say they are very happy with their lives Professional Codes of Conduct An organizational workplace code of conduct establishes acceptable standards of behavior for all employees. Basics common items covered in a workplace code of conduct include employee dress codes, attendance policies, health and safety standards, and appropriate workplace behaviors. A thorough code of conduct should address specific consequences an employee faces in violating the code.
