AGRA FORT
Agra fort is a UNESCO world heritage site
located in Agra,UP. The major part of Agra
fort was built by Akbar during 1565 AD to
1574 AD. The architecture of the fort clearly
indicates the free adoption of the Rajput
planning and construction. Some of the
important building in the fort are Jahangiri
Mahal built for Jahangir and his family, the
Moti Masjid, and Mena Bazaars. The
Jahangiri Mahal is an impressive structure
and has a courtyard surrounded by double-
storeyed halls and rooms
Humayuns tomb
After 14th year from the death of
Humayun, his widow Haji Begum
built the Humayuns tomb in Delhi.
The mausoleum of Humayun is
located in the centre of a square
surrounded by typical Mughal garden
in Fatehpur Sikri. It is said to be first
mature example of Mughal
architecture. The architecture of the
tomb is strongly influenced by
Taj mahal
The Taj Mahal was completed in 1648 by
the emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his
wife Mumtaz Mahal.The construction of Taj
Mahal took 22 years. 22000 labourers and
1000 elephants were used to build the
monument. It was built entirely out of
white marble. It is one of the seven
wonders in the world . It is a unique blend
of Persian, Islamic and Indian architecture.
The Taj Mahal covers an area of 42 acres in
total with the terrain gradually sloping
from south to north, towards the river
Buland darwaza
The Buland Darwaza is approached by 1,000,000
steps. It is made of red and buff sandstone,
decorated by carving and inlaying of white and
black marble. Buland Darwaza, is also known as
the Gate of Magnificence, was built by Akbar at
Fatehpur Sikri. Akbar built the Buland Darwaza to
commemorate his victory over Gujarat and throws
light on Akbar's religious broad mindedness.
South Indian Architecture
Meenakshi Amman Temple
Meenakshi Amman Templealso called Meenakshi
Sundareswarar Temple. is a historic Hindu temple
located on the southern bank of theVaigai Riverin the
temple city ofMadurai,Tamil Nadu,India. It is
dedicated toParvati, known asMeenakshi, and her
consort,Shiva, here named Sundareswarar. The
temple forms the heart and lifeline of the 2,500 year
old cityof Madurai and is a significant symbol for
theTamil people, mentioned since antiquity inTamil
literaturethough the present structure was built
between 1623 and 1655CE.It houses 14gopurams
(gateway towers), ranging from 4550m in height.
Kanchi kailasanathar temple
The Kailasanathar Temple is built in the
tradition of Smartha worship of Shiva,
Vishnu, Devi, Surya (Sun), Ganapathi and
Kartikeya, in Hinduism, a practice which
replaced the Buddhism. According to local
belief, the temple was a safe sanctuary for
the rulers of the kingdom during wars. A
secret tunnel, built by the kings, was used
as an escape route and is still visible.
Currently, Kanchi Kailasanathar Temple is
maintained by Archaeological Survey of
India. The temple is located on
thewestern kanchipuramand famous for
Brahmeswara temple
Historians place the temple to belong to
the late 11th century as certained from an
inscription carried to Calcutta from
Bhubaneswar. The inscription indicates
that the temple was built by Kolavatidevi,
the mother of Somavamsi king Udyota
Kesari. It was built at a place known as
Siddhatirtha in Ekamra (modern day
Bhubaneswar). Since the inscription is not
in its original place, historians indicate the
possibility of the reference to another
temple.
Ramaswamy temple
Ramaswamy Temple is a Hindu temple dedicated
to Lord Rama, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu
located in Kumbakonam, Tamil Nadu, India. The
temple has beautiful architecture pieces and has
been built by the Nayakkar kings. Govinda
Dikshitar, the prime minister of the Nayaks,
constructed the temple. He added a commercial
corridor between his new temple and the older
Chakrapani temple.
