Types of drive testing

Network benchmarking: to measure

several network technologies and
service types simultaneously to very
high accuracy, to provide directly
comparable information regarding
competitive strengths and
weaknesses.
Result: comparative data network
speed analysis.
2/18/17 RF DRIVE TEST 4
Contin
Optimization and troubleshooting: used to aid in
finding specific problems during the rollout
phases of new networks or to observe specific
problems reported by consumers during the
operational phase of the network lifecycle.
Result :In this mode drive testing data is used to
diagnose the root cause
Service quality monitoring: making test calls
across the network to a fixed test unit to assess
the relative quality of various services
usingMean opinion score(MOS).

STUDY OF KPIs

area level
cell level
TRX level.
Area-level KPls can include
SDCCH requests
dropped SDCCH total
dropped SDCCH Ab is failures
outgoing MSC control handover (HO) attempts
outgoing BSC control HO attempts
intra-cell HO attempts, etc.

DRIVE TEST PROCESS
Selection of the 'live' region of the
network
Selection of the drive testing path.
To have the appropriate kits
including
Mobile equipment (usually three
mobiles)
Drive testing software (on a laptop)

2/18/17 RF DRIVE TEST 8

DRIVE TEST PROCESS

Two mobiles are used to generate calls with a

gap of few seconds (usually 15-20 s).
The third mobile is usually used for testing the
coverage.
It makes one continuous call, and if this call
drops it will attempt another call.
To collect enough samples at a reasonable speed
and in a reasonable time.
If there are lots of dropped calls, the problem is
analysed to find a solution for it and to propose
changes.

than port DC. i.e there is COM 5 and COM 6, the DC port is COM 5 and
the MS port is COM 6).Herewith the example of command sequence in
TEMS 6.1.4
Voice Call CS i.e 120/15 means 120 second on call then call end, 15
second wait and then call again.
1.Loop Startgive the number of repetition for command below the loop
start (General -> Loop Start)
2.Dialselect the MS and give the destination number (Voice -> Dial)
3.Synchronizeto synchcronize MS before go to the next command
(General -> Synchronize) 4.Wait 120wait 120s on call (General -> Wait)
5.End Call(Voice -> End Call)
6.Wait 15wait 15 before call again (General -> Wait)
7.Loop End(General->LoopEnd)
