Defined Services for the UE in
Idle Mode
Limited services (emergency calls and ETWS),
which is obtained when the UE is camping on an
acceptable cell (Camped on any cell)

Normal services,
for public use on a suitable cell (Camped normally).

Paging DRX cycle
The UE may use Discontinuous Reception (DRX) in idle mode in order to
reduce power consumption and subsequently increase battery life.

UE reads SIB2 (IE radioResourceConfigCommon) to calculate when to wake

to monitor the Paging channel.

When DRX is used the UE needs only to monitor one P-RNTI per DRX cycle.

If the UE detects a P-RNTI value coded

UE monitors PDCCH channel at
with the CRC of the PDCCH then it will
the start of the subframe to see if
decode the PDSCH to see if the paging
a paging message is included

Adaptive Paging

Allows the operator to configure if a first page is to be distributed to the

area of a single RBS, TA or the whole TA list
The selected area in which the page is sent can be decided based on
different criteria:
UE related criteria, IMEI series and IMSI series. These criteria are used to
send a page to a single RBS or a TA for known stationary UEs such as
electricity meters
Time since UE last reported location. This criterion is used to send a page to
a single RBS or a TA when a the location of the UE is unknown
Service related criteria, APN, QCI and ARP. These criteria are used for time
critical services to guarantee that the page is sent directly to all RBSs in TA
list
The criteria are assigned a priority value which indicates the order the
criteria are verified.

Location Registration
Three different types of registration updates:

Normal registration

Periodic Registration

Attach/detach

In Compliance with ISO 9001 | Cost effective | Quality | Training | IT Infrastructure Services
Normal Registration
A Normal Registration update is done when:

The UE is switched on

The UE is moving into a new TA (-list)
