Visit a Bata Retail shop or any other major
shoe company retail shop in Madurai.
a. Study their ordering policy,
including delivery lead time
Usually they use ERP software to identify the
current moving items in each shop and
replenish the order in 14 days (2 weeks)
Lead time is 2 days
b. How do they handle shop
soiled items? Is there a shelf life
for footwear?
If there is any damage, they will blame
Transporter only.
No shelf life.
In Bata, Old stocks are generally moved
through some discounts/offers.
c. How do they decide to offer
festival and other discounts?
Top Management only decides what to do.
Retailers have no power in that to choose the
discount or offer plans.
d. How do they handle old items
when new models are introduced?
When a new product is introduce, new rack
will be added and it will be showcased.
Old items will be in the same place.
Selection of place of new rack in showroom is
decided by top management only.
Only the arrangements are done by shop
owners/sales people.
e. How is their inbound logistics
handled?
Here in Bata, all items to a single area is
delivered in a single shipment only.
For whole Tamilnadu shipment will be sent
from Bangalore.
f. If the show room is handled on
franchise mode, how are the
payments made?
All the payments are collected through CMS
money remittance.
Payments are collected on daily basis.
g. How do they decide which
items need to be stocked? Is there
seasonality for certain products?
There is no such things followed by Bata.
All decisions are made only by the top
management.
Through ERP, the top management decides
what to do at what time.
