Race addressed in Zootopia
Race is a major theme in Zootopia

-In the film, racial issues and interaction are shown as different species

-Nick, a fox, is often stereotyped as being sly and dishonest. Judys

parents even give her a fox away spray when she leaves them

-When news of several attacks are made by predators, the minority in

Zootopia, surface, the public becomes afraid of predators
Race addressed in Zootopia cont...
Connection to Amreeka
The tension between species reflects generalization of minorities, which
is addressed in Amreeka

-Munas family and predators are mistreated and seen as the enemy
because of the actions of a few

-Nick is stereotyped as being a shady criminal because he is a fox and

Nabeel loses business because his family is stereotyped as the enemy
Class in Zootopia
- Class is very closely relatable to race in this movie
- Animals that are predators and large, tough animals typically
have jobs with the most power and influence over the city (police,
mayor, guards, etc.)
- Animals that are prey and are smaller,
weaker animals typically have jobs with no power
(assistants, farmers, meter maid, etc.)
Zootopia - Gideon Grey's apology to Judy
- Predators and the big and
strong animals are thought to
have the bigger jobs
(professional, corporate jobs)
but Gideon Grey challenges
this stereotype once he grows
up and figures himself out.
(Falls in race category also)

- Judys parents, however, fall

into the stereotype that prey
animals have jobs lower on the
rank.

- Ties in the theme that you

shouldnt judge a
person/animal by their
Class connection to Amreeka (2009)
Race and class in Zootopia are connected to Amreeka because of the
way both Muna and Judy are treated in their jobs.

- Both have a lot of experience in their fields and are qualified to

work their jobs, but neither of them are taken seriously
