INBOUND PROCESS IN

EWM
Inbound Process Overview
From the ASN/Purchase Order in ERP an inbound delivery is created.

The Inbound delivery is replicated to EWM and becomes an IDN. The

IDN can be used, for example to reject the complete inbound delivery.
Via the post processing framework (PPF) from the IDN, the ID is
created.

During this creation, the determination of EWM specific settings is

done. For example, the warehouse process type is determined.

The initial EWM warehouse tasks are generated from the EWM Inbound
Delivery document.

From the initial task or tasks, additional tasks may be created in EWM
based on process and layout storage control.
Another goods receipt process that generates an inbound delivery in
EWM is the Expected Goods Receipt process
The Notification of Expected Goods Receipt (GRN) is created with
reference to either a purchase order or production order in the ERP
system.

It contains a copy of all of the relevant logistics data from the source
document.

The Expected Goods Receipt document is created from the Notification

of Expected Goods Receipt document after it has been activated by
EWM.

In the expected goods receipt process it is possible to create an inbound

delivery from an EGR document in EWM, and an inbound delivery (ID)
can be created locally, in EWM, without an ERP document.

In this process, you have to enter the preceding document, and during
saving, the inbound delivery is sent to ERP.
Using master data and customizing settings, EWM determines the
putaway path of each product being received. The putaway path can
include movements to deconsolidation, quality inspection, packing and
value-added services.

The physical putaway path can be dynamically determined as the

product moves through various warehouse processes.
Warehouse
Process Types
The warehouse process types control physical movements and postings
in the Warehouse

In SAP Extended Warehouse Management the warehouse process

type controls the movements inside the warehouse. The system
processes each warehouse process (such as goods receipt, goods issue,
posting change, and repacking) using such a warehouse process type.

A warehouse process type is assigned to every warehouse task

document. The warehouse process type has various effects on the
creation of warehouse tasks.

The warehouse process type is linked to the activity or movement which

is executed in the warehouse (like putaway, picking, internal movement,
or posting change) and includes, when necessary for simple
movements, the storage type and storage bin from where, or to where,
the goods have to be moved.

For more complex movements, it either includes the storage process

(for process-oriented storage control) or a warehouse order creation
rule. The warehouse process type is determined during the creation of
the warehouse request document. It is can also
be determined by the individual step in the process-oriented storage
The warehouse process type is assigned to a warehouse process
category and an activity, which are connected to each other and
show the direction of the movement in the warehouse
The warehouse process categories describe the type of
the goods movement in the warehouse. The following
warehouse process categories are predefined in the
standard EWM system:

1: Putaway
2: Stock Removal
3: Internal Warehouse Movement
4: Physical Inventory
5: Goods Receipt Posting
6: Goods Issue Posting
7: Posting Change
8: Cross-Line Stock Putaway

The warehouse process categories Goods Receipt

Posting and Goods Issue Posting are used internally
for goods receipt and goods issue posting.
Interim storage type and storage bin

The warehouse process type can include information about the source
storage type and storage bin for putaway warehouse tasks, and it can
contain the destination storage type and storage bin for picking
warehouse tasks. Other than in SAP ERP WM, no dynamic storage bins
are used in SAP EWM on these interim storage types.
Warehouse Process Control indicator

In the warehouse product master, in the Warehouse data view, there is

a control indicator, the Process Type Determination Indicator that can
be used to group products for which the same warehouse process type
is to be used.

SAP EWM uses this product master indicator when determining the
warehouse process type during the creation of warehouse request
documents.

Using the Process Type Determination Indicator to determine

warehouse process types can facilitate different handling of products
during goods receipt or goods issue.

For example, products which are to be moved immediately into high

rack storage can be
distinguished from material which needs to be processed in some way,
like re-labeling.
Warehouse Process Type Determination

During the creation of a warehouse request document, the warehouse

process type
is determined. Since it is influenced by the product master, it is
determined on the item level. For warehouse process type
determination, various data fields like the document type, the item
type, and the control indicator are used.
The system determines the warehouse process type according to the
logic outlined below, which means that all of the determining fields may
not be required to determine a particular warehouse process type.

Assumptions for the access logic for warehouse process type

determination are:

The item type is more specific than the document type.

The processing priority is more specific than the control indicator
from the warehouse product master.
SAP EWM always takes into account the warehouse number,
because process types are defined specifically for each warehouse
number.
The table is then accessed as follows:

1. All key fields are specified.

2. Document type, item type, and processing priority are specified.
3. Document type, item type, and warehouse process type
determination indicator are specified.
4. Document type and item type are specified.
5. Item type, processing priority, and warehouse process type
determination indicator are specified.
6. Item type and processing priority are specified.
7. Item type and warehouse process type determination indicator
are specified.
8. Item type is specified.
9. Document type, processing priority, and warehouse process type
determination indicator are specified.
10.Document type and processing priority are specified.
11.Document type and warehouse process type determination
indicator are specified.
12.Only the document type is specified.
The warehouse process type is also determined in process-oriented
storage control and in work center processing. Anytime a warehouse
task is created there must be a warehouse process type available
from the warehouse request document or from the process
configuration.

Availability Groups for
Inventory Management
EWM does not maintain the ERP storage location in the EWM
warehouse quant data.

In its place, the system uses the EWM availability group code to
determine an EWM stock type. In EWM customizing there is a table
that maps the ERP Plant, storage location and Logical system number
to an availability group code.

The availability group is also the link between stock types in EWM and
the ERP plant and storage location stock. You can have different stock
types in EWM for one storage location in ERP.
You can have different stock types in EWM for one storage location in
ERP.

A stock posting in EWM results in a goods movement message sent to

ERP. if for example the change of the stock type is a change of plant
and/or storage location in ERP too.

To establish the Availability Group interface in EWM and the ERP

system the system uses several customizing tables.
For inbound deliveries, you can make either partial (partial goods
receipt) or complete goods receipt postings.

Partial goods receipt postings can be done per HU, per WT or for a
partial quantity.

After you have posted the goods receipt in EWM, several follow-up
activities and statuses are set:

Goods receipt status is set for the inbound delivery in SAP ECC.

Upon putaway, the system performs a transfer from received on dock

(RD##) to available for sale (AF##). The stock is now available for sale
and the status of the inbound delivery is set to Completed.

Direct Putaway Configuration
When warehouse tasks are created to direct the movement of a product
from its source receiving location to a destination location in the
warehouse, the EWM system determines this location information based
on configuration tables in the system.

Putaway configuration helps the system to identify Destination location.

In this topic we will understand how the system determines source and
destination locations in the warehouse tasks that are created during
putaway
The EWM system obtains the source location storage type and bin from
the warehouse process type. It then has to determine the destination
putaway location based on determination tables in customizing.
The first step in determining the destination location is the determination
of the destination storage type. To do this the system obtains information
from the Inbound delivery document (Entitled to dispose, stock
type/usage), warehouse product master (putaway control indicator),
hazardous substances master data, and packaging specifications to
determine the storage type search sequence code.

The storage type search sequence code contains the list of storage types
that can be searched for bins. The system assigns the first storage type in
the determined storage type search sequence

If the storage type determined contains more than one storage section,
the system will then proceed to determine the storage section to be
assigned in the destination location.
In storage section determination, the storage type, section indicator from
the warehouse product master and the hazardous attributes are used to
determine the storage section in the determination table.

After the storage section is determined, the system then searches for a
putaway bin for the product quantity to be putaway.

The storage bin is determined based on the presence of a storage section

indicator and bin type specification in the warehouse product master, the
putaway rule (strategy) and capacity checking.
If, after checking all of the bins in the determined storage type and
section, the system cannot locate a suitable bin, it will go to the next
section and search there.

If all of the bins have been searched in the storage type, the system will
then assign the next storage type in the storage type search sequence.

You can also assign a storage bin type to a warehouse product master.
The system will search for bins within the storage type and section that
have this bin type.

There is a customizing table that can be used to determine alternate bin

types if a
bin cannot be found using the bin type in the warehouse product master.

Storage Section Search Sequence

For storage section determination, EWM uses the storage section search
sequence.

This sequence specifies in which storage sections the system searches for
destination storage bins.

On the product master, you can group the products using the storage
section indicator (SSI), so that like products will be handled in a similar
way from a storage section placement perspective (for example, slow-
moving vs. fast-moving products). The storage section indicator is then
used (along with other criteria, such as the warehouse number, storage
type, and hazard rating) to determine the storage section search
sequence
To set up the storage section search in the EWM IMG, follow the menu

Storage Bin Type Sequence

In the next step, EWM determines the possible storage bin types
per storage type.

A storage bin type groups bins according to their physical

attributes (for example,
large bins vs. small bins).

On the storage bin type settings, you specify whether the HU type
is checked during putaway. If it is checked, then the bin type
sequence is determined based on the warehouse number, storage
