Different writers defined SOP with slight variations. For example, the U.S
Environmental Protection Agency and European Medicines Agency defined it
as, a set of written and detailed instructions that document a routine or
repetitive activity followed by an organization to achieve uniformity of the
performance of a specific function.

According to the U.S Environmental Protection Agency (EPA, p. 1), SOP avoids
variations regardless of the operator and time of operation; provides
individuals with the information to perform a job properly; facilitates
consistency in quality of an end-result; addresses safety concerns; and
minimizes chances for miscommunication, even if there are temporary or
permanent personnel changes.

According to Biologic Technological Applications (EBTE) Consultants, SOP

standardizes activities of a specific procedure; speeds up the integration of an
individual into the organization during an initial phase of an employment;
improves transparency within the organization; serves as a valuable structure
for internal communication; shares best practices within the organization; and
provides valuable background information for management policy
development and change.

Sonja Vorster, founder of Virtual Productivity Solutions, states five benefits of

implementing SOPs are-
1. Reduced training time for new employees.
2. Ensured Business Continuity
3. Standardized Processes
4. Delegating tasks becomes a no-brainer
5. Ensure that your clients are getting the best possible experience with
you.

SKUs

SKU (stock keeping unit, sometimes spelled "Sku") is an identification, usually

alphanumeric, of a particular product that allows it to be tracked for inventory
purposes. Typically, an SKU (pronounced with the individual letters or asSKYEW) is
associated with any purchasable item in a store or catalog. For example, a woman's
blouse of a particular style and size might have an SKU of "3726-8," meaning "Style
3726, size 8."
It is mostly used in warehousing as it provides a clear idea of every piece and helps
in identifying one piece from other.

NEED OF SKUs

Stores use SKUs for determining which items are in stock and which need
reordering, as a method of growing profits.

An SKUs letter-and-number code reveals a products details, such as color, size,

style, price, manufacturer and brand.

SKUs are commonly categorized by products for easier analysis.

Businesses attach SKUs to different products in one category so that shoppers may
compare characteristics of varying items in that group.

Trim Codes
Trim codes are given to have an easy procurement of material from the
inventory at the time of need. trim codes eventually help in making the job
easier for the person and makes the items easily distinguishable. Though trim
codes can include colour, shape, type, weight etc. in my project trim codes
have only been used for buttons as there are different types of buttons of the
same colour as shown in the next slide.
