INTRODUCTION
Pharmacology can be defined as the study of
substances that interact with living systems through
chemical processes, especially by binding to
regulatory molecules and activating or inhibiting
normal body processes.
These substances may be chemicals administered to
achieve a beneficial therapeutic effect on some
process within the patient or for their toxic effects on
regulatory processes in parasites infecting the
patient.

INTRODUCTION
Medical pharmacology, which is often defined as the
science of substances used to prevent, diagnose, and treat
disease.
Toxicology is that branch of pharmacology which deals
with the undesirable effects of chemicals on living systems,
from individual cells to complex ecosystems.
Two general principles
all substances can under certain circumstances be toxic
all therapies promoted as health-enhancing should meet the
same standards of evidence of efficacy and safety, ie, there
should be no artificial separation between scientific
medicine and "alternative" or "complementary" medicine.

DRUG
A drug may be defined as any substance that
brings about a change in biologic function
through its chemical actions.

FARMAKOGNOSI
cabang ilmu farmakologi yang mempelajari sifat
tumbuhan/bahan lain yang menjadi sumber obat

FITOFARMAKA
tumbuhan yang sudah diolah dan dimanfaatkan sebagai
obat

FARMASI
ilmu yang mempelajari cara membuat, formulasi, cara
menyimpan dan menyediakan obat

FARMAKOLOGI EKSPERIMENTAL
Ilmu yang mempelajari efek obat pada hewan coba sebelum diujikan
pada manusia

FARMAKOLOGI KLINIK
Cabang ilmu farmakologi yang mempelajari efek/studi obat pada
manusia (termasuk uji klinik)

FARMAKOKINETIK
Ilmu yang mempelajari nasib obat dalam tubuh, meliputi absorpsi,
distribusi, metabolisme, dan ekskresi

FARMAKODINAMIK
Ilmu yang mempelajari mekanisme kerja dan efek fisiologi & biokimia
obat terhadap berbagai organ tubuh

FARMAKOTERAPI
Ilmu yang mempelajari penggunaan obat untuk pencegahan dan
pengobatan penyakit

Pharmacogenomics (or pharmacogenetics)

study of the genetic variations that cause individual differences in
drug response.

FARMAKOEKONOMI
Ilmu yang mempelajari hubungan obat dan pengobatan dengan biaya
yang dikeluarkan

FARMAKOLOGI SOSIAL
Ilmu yang mempelajari farmakologi pada masyarakat termasuk
farmakokinetik sosial dan farmakodinamik sosial

FARMAKOEPIDEMIOLOGI
Ilmu yang mempelajari epidemiologi suatu obat

TOKSIKOLOGI
Ilmu yang mempelajari keracunan zat kimia, yaitu
obat, zat rumah tangga, zat di industri, zat di lingkungan
seperti insektisida, pestisida, dll.

BATRA
Obat yang berasal dari tumbuhan, hewan, mineral, dan
sediaan galenik lainnya atau campuran bahan tersebut
yang belum mempunyai data klinis dan dipergunakan
dalam usaha pengobatan berdasarkan pengalaman
