WHAT IS IT?
A group of bacteria that can cause a multitude of diseases.
Its also known as Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus or staph).
FACTS
The name Staphylococcus comes from the Greek staphyle, meaning a
bunch of grapes, and kokkos, meaning berry because under the
microscope, that what it looks like.
These bacteria are present in up to 25 percent of healthy people.
The illness lasts 24-48 hours.

DISEASE CAUSED?
Staph infections of the skin can progress to impetigo (a crusting of the
skin) or cellulitis (inflammation of the deeper layers of skin and connective
tissue under the skin, leading to swelling and redness of the area).
In rare situations, a serious complication known as scalded skin syndrome
can develop.
HIDEOUTS
Founded on the skin and hair as well as the noses and throats of people.
Its sources are salad bakery products, diary product as well as meat,
poultry, eggs and related products.
CRIMES
Nausea, vomiting diarrhea, loss of appetite , severe abdominal cramps,
mild fever.
RISK
Anyone can developed staphylococcus.
But, certain group of people are at risk, which includes newborn infants,
breastfeeding women, and people with chronic conditions, such as
diabetes, cancer, vascular disease, and lung disease
PREVENTION
Wash hands and under fingernails vigorously with soap and water before
handling and preparing food.
Do not prepare food if you have a nose or eye infection.
Do not prepare or serve food for others if you have wounds or skin
infections on your hands or wrists.
Keep kitchens and food-serving areas clean and sanitized.
WHAT SHOULD YOU DO?
Drink plenty of fluids and get rest.
If you cannot drink enough fluids to prevent dehydration, call your doctor.
TREATMENT
Staphylococcus are susceptible to beta-lactamase resistant penicillins such
as ticarcillin and pipercillin.
