Corn Cultivation Weather and

Climate
Corn grows well between temperature of 21
~ 35 Deg C.
Required 50 ~ 100 mm water during the
cultivation period.
Best month to sow corn seeds are Jan to
Feb, Jun to July, Sept to Oct every year
Land Preparation
Required 5 to 7 ploughings to achieve fine tilth
stage of soil and to remove weed.
Apply 10 to 20 tons of well decomposed FMY
(farm yard manure) per hactare
Apply 10 Azospirillum packet per hactare
Prepare furrow and ridge between 45 to 50
cm
Corn Seeds Treatment
1 hectare of land required 11 to 12 kg of seeds
Treat seeds with thiram or carbendazim @ 2
grams per kg of seeds to control downy
mildew fungal disease
Next day, treat the seeds with 600 grams of
Azospirillium for 15 to 20 mins.
Sowing Method
Plant to plant spacing is 10cm and 2 seed per
hill.
Sow the seeds 1/3 of the ridge from the

Irrigation
Starts irrigation during sowing.
Next is 3rd or 4th day depends on weather
Initial 3 to 4 weeks, less irrigation is
recommended
After that, subsequent irrigation should be
given once a week.
Weed and Pest Control
Required 2 to 3 times hand weeding, one is 3
weeks time, second is 40 to 45 days.
Downy Mildew, remove the infected plant,
spray Metalaxyl 72 WP or Mancozeb @ 1kg
per hactare , 21 days after sowing.
Leaf Spot, spray Captan or Mancozeb @ 1kg
per hactare, 21 days after sowing.
