UPS Classification by IEC 62040-3

The document discusses different classifications of uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems according to standard IEC 62040-3. It describes the classifications of VFI, VI, and VFD UPS technologies, with VFI being the highest "first class" classification that provides complete isolation from all 10 types of mains disturbances and independent voltage and frequency output. VI is classified as "second class" as it is only isolated from 5 disturbances. VFD is the lowest "third class" as it only protects against 3 disturbances and has dependent voltage and frequency output. The classifications refer to both the level of protection against mains disturbances and the dynamic performance of the UPS output.
