CONTENT
BRIEF HISTORY
Evolved in Japan after World War II, as a result of their
diminishing market share in the auto industry.

Founded by Taiichi Ohno, a vice president of Toyota.

Basically implemented in Toyota plant 1950, well established


after 1970.
CONCEPT OF JIT
JIT- A philosophy of continuous improvement that puts emphasis
on prevention rather than correction, and demands a company
wide focus on quality.

JIT- operational management approach to achieve world class


manufacturing.

JIT- production is based on demand.

JIT- Well known as TPS.

KANBAN SYSTEM
The word Kan means "card" in Japanese and the word "ban"
means "signal". So Kanban refers to "signal cards".

What are signal cards?

Pull type production system.

KANBAN responsive to customers.


ADVATAGES
Funds that were tied up in inventories can be used elsewhere.

Areas previously used to store inventories can be used for


other more productive uses.

Throughput time is reduced, resulting in greater potential


output and quicker response to customers.

Defect rates are reduced, resulting in less waste and greater


customer satisfaction.
DISADVANTAGES
Implementing thorough JIT procedures can involve a major
overhaul of business systems -it may be difficult and expensive to
introduce.

Risk of running out of stock.

Lack of control over time frame.

More planning is required.

CONCLUSION
JIT is a philosophy which leads to produce the required item.

It is an approach to achieve in excellence in elimination of waste.

Integration plays very important role in JIT.

The JIT is state of the art idea that is beginning to catch on in a


tremendous way all over the world.
