Etiology

Hypertension or high blood pressure is a


complication of DM disease believed to cause
most directly the occurrence of Diabetic
Nephropathy. Uncontrolled hypertension can
increase the progression to achieve higher
phase of Diabetic Nephropathy (Phase V
Diabetic Nephropathy) (Sawein, 2004)

a. HLA antigen (human leukocyte antigen)
Several studies have found an association of genetic factors
of HLA antigen type with the incidence of diabetic
nephropathy. Groups of diabetics with nephropathy more
often have HLA-B9 type Ag
b. Glucose transporter (GLUT)
Every DM patient who has GLUT 1-5 has the potential to
get diabetic nephropathy

4. Consumption of animal protein(Sukandar, 1997)
