A good example of a post modern text. Written by Mark Twain Follows the adventures of a boy named Huckleberry Finn as he escapes his abusive father with his friend Jim, an escaped slave. The pair are on a mission to reach the north for a better life. Twain works to include AAVE (African American vernacular English) to stay authentic to the period. Considered a classic. Written by Marjane Satrapi Follows the life of a young girl in Iran during the Islamic revolution. The book is actually a graphic novel, and the fictional character is based off of Marjanes experiences during the Islamic revolution. Great book to read to better understand the Islamic revolution. Written by Gloria Naylor Follows the lives of African American women who all end up at the same place, Brewster Place. The books does an excellent job of shedding light on the African American female experience. Written by George Orwell The novel is a dystopian novel that follows a man named Winston as he begins to see the problems of his society. Very often taught to high school students. Great example of a dystopian novel, which is a common genre.
