Introduction

 A biometric feature, has several advantages:

 Low cost capture devices
 Low-resolution imaging
 It is very difficult, to fake a palmprint
 The line features of the palmprints are stable

Introduction

 Fishers linear discriminant (FLD) is an efficient app
roach to extract the algebraic features that have stro
ng discriminability.

Experimental results and analyses

 Input device : CCD-camera

 Database : 3000 palmprint images from different
300 palms.
 Resolution : The central part of the palmprint
image ,whose size is 128*128(original
palmprint is 384*284 pixels) .

Fig.4. Some type samples from database.

Experimental results and analyses
(cont.)
 The original images are decomposed into a Gaussian
pyramid .

 The resolution of ith level image is 27 i * 27 i ,where

i  0 , 1 , ... 5 (0th is 128 *128)
. .

Fig.5. An example of Gaussian pyramid decomposition of a palmprint image. 12

Experimental results and analyses
(cont.)

 The weighted Euclidean distance is used to cluster

those features :

f : The feature vector of the unknown palmprint .

f k : The kth feature vector .
sk : Standard deviation .
N : The feature length .

Conclusions

 High accuracies (>99%) have been obtained by the p

roposed method and the speed of this method (respo
nding <0.4s) is rapid enough for real-time palmprint
recognition.
