3.Impact Analysis1/3:
1, DRX help UE power saving, UE sleep more can get better power
saving ( HTC One XL with Agilent device)

Set3 (Apple suggest) 320ms 10ms 100ms 80ms 1
Set 2 and set3 has no big difference in power saving (Set 3 has 1% more gain with Set 2) and has the same impact when comparing with Set1 (the
following 2th and 4th points), We are fine with Apple parameters when set2 comparing with set3, but need check the 2th and 4th points more
carefully. Set 1 is optimized when comparing to 3.0 default values, to improve the TCP downlink latency while keep the same power saving.

3. Impact Analysis 2/3:
2HO and call drop performance may be impact when 320ms long DRX is configured in high
speed and weak coverage scenario, because RSRP measurement report period is 5 times of
Long DRX Cycle, long RSRP measurement lead to HO late or call drop.
NOTE: from 3GPP TS 36.133, RSRP measurement time requirement for FDD intra frequency is 5 times of DRX cycle
DRX cycle length (s) Tmeasure_intra (s) (DRX cycles)
0.04 0.2 (Note1)
0.04<DRX-cycle2.56 Note2 (5)
Note1: Number of DRX cycle depends upon the DRX cycle in use
Note2: Time depends upon the DRX cycle in use
In high speed cells with week coverage neighbor cell, parameter set 1 in Page 5(performance first parameters)is
suggest to get rid of possible HO problem.
DRX need trial carefully before commercial use because it heavily depend on UE chipset when 320ms long DRX
cycle is used

Impact Analysis 3/3:
3Parameter Set 2 in page 5 experience Beta test in heavy load
commercial USB-dongle-based network (Operator-A), no KPIs
deteriorating was observed(No Smartphone In this network, just USB-
dongle ).
4latency need more carefully
DRX get power saving but introduce service latency. 8ms ping latency is
added comparing with pre-allocation setting to on , and also DL
throughput gain at small TCP window benefit from pre-allocation will lose.
If customer care the ping latency gain and throughput gain at small TCP window
benefit from pre-allocation? (When Parameter Set 2/3 in page 5 is used, more latency is introduced
for Uplink (8960 QC chipset need 60ms wake up at deep sleep, its acceptable?)and downlink (data arrive at
sleep time) because of sleep time, lab test shows that Iphone5s uplink ping delay at 50+ms)

Enabling the DRX feature
Run the MOD DRX command to turn on the DRX switch Drx.DrxAlgSwitch=ON.
Run the MOD DRXPARAGROUP command to configure a DRX parameter group for a bearer.
Run the MOD CELLSTANDARDQCI command to bind a DRX parameter group to a standardized QCI for a cell.
Run the MOD TATIMER command to configure TimeAlignmentTimer to 10240ms when DRX cycle is large
than 80ms
Disabling the DRX feature
Run the MOD DRX command to turn on the DRX switch Drx.DrxAlgSwitch=OFF.

Key Parameters Introduction
LST CELLDRXPARA
Local cell ID Indicates the local ID of the cell. It uniquely identifies a cell within a BS. LocalCellId 0~17 None
MOD CELLDRXPARA
Indicates the threshold for UEs to enter DRX in the cell that operates in
FDD mode. This threshold is used in the DRX algorithm. It is expressed
FDD enter DRX MOD CELLDRXPARA as a proportion of the transmission time intervals (TTIs) with data
FddEnterDrxThd 0~999 300
threshold LST CELLDRXPARA transmission to the total TTIs. If the traffic volume at a UE is equal to or
lower than this threshold, the eNodeB decides that the UE should
retain its DRX state or enter DRX.
Indicates the threshold for UEs to exit DRX in the cell that operates in
FDD mode. This threshold is used in the DRX algorithm. It is expressed
FDD exit DRX MOD CELLDRXPARA as a proportion of the transmission time intervals (TTIs) with data
FddExitDrxThd 1~1000 800
threshold LST CELLDRXPARA transmission to the total TTIs. If the traffic volume at a UE is equal to or
higher than this threshold, the eNodeB decides that the UE should
retain its non-DRX state or exit DRX.
ADD DRXPARAGROUP
