• An imaginative way of using comparisons to create fresh,
new images. They are not literally true, but express a
truth beyond the literal level.

• Uses words like like or as to compare two
different things.
Below are some examples of simile which found in
“The Jade Pendant”.
 as big as the palm of a child’s hand
 as vehemently as she could
 as much as she could
 get as good a price for such a jewel
 not at the idiot child –like face but at the jewel that
rested awkwardly on the flat, child-like chest

• Whimpered (make a series of low, feeble
sounds expressive of fear, pain, or
discontent. -whimpering sound.)
• Whisper (speak very softly using one’s
breath rather than one’s throat.)
