• Large diameter needed for better rope life.

• Low diameter reduces cost, space and


centrifugal forces.

• However rope life is generally compensated to


achieve the later one.

• But to keep the extent of wear in rope under


permissible range there exists minimum value
of ratio of drum diameter to the rope diameter.
