Lizzi and Zoka decided to revise multiplication. X4

Lizzi: Zoka, here are 5 stars. If I multiply these with 10, what will I get?
Zoka: You will get 10 groups of 5 stars like this;

10 groups.
Each group has five
stars.

Lizzi: Yes, and how many stars is that?

Zoka: 5 × 10 = 50
Lizzi: you're right! And how much is 8 × 10?
Zoka: That's easy, it's 80.
Zoka: And what happens if we want to multiply by 20?
Lizzi: Since 20 = 2 × 10, multiplication with 20 is the same as X4
multiplication with 2 and THEN with 10.
Zoka: Or with 10 and THEN with 2.
Lizzi: Yes! And the same applies for 30,40,50, and so on.

Multiplying with 30 is the same as multiplying with and then with

.
Multiplying with 70 is the same as multiplying with and then with

Multiplying with 100 is the same as multiplying with and then with
.
When you multiply a number with 100, you add at the end
of the number.
Multiplying with 200 is the same as multiplying with 2 and then
.

Multiplying with 600 is the same as multiplying with 6 and then

.

Multiplying with 1000 is the same as multiplying with 10 and then

.

When you multiply a number with 1000, you just add

at the end of a number.
1. Let's see how well you remember this!

Solve the following.

X4

b) 17 × 10 =

c) 6 × 20 = 6 × × = × 10 =

Captain Spark: Now you should revise division.

Since 3 × 10 = 30, then 30 ÷ 10 = 3

5 × 100 = 500, then 500 ÷ 100 = 5
2 × 1000 = 2000, then 2000 ÷ 1000 = 2

9. Captain Spark gave three jars to Lizzi and Zoka. First jar should
contain numbers divided by 10. Second jar should hold numbers
divided by 100. Third jar should hold numbers which were divided by
1000. X6
Captain Spark also gave them a paper with a table. The table holds the
original number and the divided number. Lizzi and Zoka's task is to
figure out what the original number was divided by, and to place the
divided number in the correct jar. Can you solve this before Lizzi and
Zoka do?

Zoka: We can now divide by 200, 300 and so on.
Lizzi: We just need to remember that 200 = 2 × 100. So dividing with
200 is the same as dividing with 2 and then with 100.
Zoka: Will the same work for 2000, 3000 and so on?
