INTRODUCTION

MICROPROCESSOR BASED SYSTEM

In the daily life we use lots of Electronics devices like Calculators , Computers ,
Automatic Washing Machine and Mobile Phones etc. The common thing in all these
devices is that they all contain Microprocessor (brain in the Electronics System).so they
all are microprocessor based system

These are divided into two categories

Microprocessor Based Systems

Reprogrammable Systems Embedded Systems

Reprogrammable Systems

These are the general purpose systems. We can run programs of different type of
language programs like C, C++, Java , Visual Basic etc. Even we can listen the music,
watching the movies ,surfing internet, sending mails etc. That is, these system can be
reprogrammed from the user’s point of view and they are general purpose type. These
are Microprocessor based Electronics Systems.

Embedded systems

These are not general purpose systems but these system are designed for specific
applications. Embedded systems are microcontroller based electronics systems which
are designed for the specific task only by installing the software in hardware to make it
intelligent and work like a human being.

Microcontroller 8051

For study of embedded system we are selecting the microcontroller 8051, because of
the following reasons…………..
• This is widely used in electronics industries.
• It is 8 bit architecture and designed by INTEL CO.
• It contains UART Chip, RAM, ROM, Timers ports etc on the single chip.
• Its assembly language is quite similar to the 8085 Microprocessor
About 8051 Microcontrollers

The 8051 is the name of entire family of microcontroller. Actually it is architecture of 8

bitts, which is designed by Intel . If we study about the 8051 MCS(Micro controller
series),than we will cover following microcontrollers….

4 ICs are of 40 pins and others are of 20 pins. In 20 pin ICs these are less
resources.
5. 89c1051So conclusion is that 8051 is representing complete family if we will study
about architecture of 8051, its assembly language it means that it is common to all MCs.
