Presentacion Twisting Words
To repeat what
someone said in
a way that has a
different
meaning.
Tropes and Schemes
Tropes and schemes are both figures of speech that add color and
interest to language.
They are commonly thought to be persuasive because they dress
up language.
There is much more to tropes and
schemes than surface considerations.
Indeed, politicians and experts use
these language forms to create
specific social and political effects
by playing on our emotions.
Why do people twist words?
1.Sometimes it’s that you’re absolutely right but it’s a truth they’re not ready to
acknowledge.
2.Sometimes they just like a fight. Some people seem to get energized by a long,
pointless argument. I find it draining, and have plenty of better ways to spend my
time and energy.
3.And sometimes they want to let you know how little your thoughts or
feelings matter to them.
Hyperbole
Examples include:
•He’s been here hundreds of times.
•I’ll die from embarrassment.
•She has tons of money.
Irony

meaning.

Examples:
•Jumbo shrimp
•Organized mess
•Worried optimist
