FORMATION OF SHADOWS

1. When the Sun shines on the pole, a shadow of pole

is cast.
2. At different time of the day :
a) the shadow will be at different place
b) the shadow will have different length
3. The rotation of the Earth on its axis causes the
position and the length of the shadow to change.
4. If an object is placed in an open space, the length
and the position of the shadow changes from the
west to the east :
a) In the morning, the length of the shadow is longer
than the actual object and points to the west.
b) As the Sun rises until midday, the shadow
becomes shorter.
c) At midday, the length of the shadow is the
shortest.
d) When the Sun sets, the length of the shadow gets
longer
e) In the afternoon, the length of the shadow is
longer and points to the east.
