ENVIRONMENTAL

ETHICS

Presented by
R.M.K
 Environmental ethics examine human and
non-human relationships from an extra-
cultural perspective .
 Utilizing this perspective, we attempt to
analyse ethical judgements and moral
behaviour encouraged by the values, beliefs,
norms and attitudes of ‘western mainstream’
culture.
 We will explore any value Nature may have in
and of itself, beyond human preferences, and
this will lead us to the consideration of the
rights of plants, animals, land and humans
 This character was developed during the
evoluntionary process and was influenced by
the need for adapting to the natural
environment.
 Our ethic is a direct result of our natural
environment.
 During the latter stages of the evolutionary
process, Homo sapiens began to modify the
environment rather than submit to what,
millenia later, became
known as Darwanian natural selection.
 Thus, we are no longer adapted to
our natural environment but rather to
our self made environment
Ethics

The Principles of behavior that conduct governing an

individual or a group has about what is right & wrong
or good & bad. Environment Ethics: Study of the
ethical basis of environment or discussion of the
ethical basis of environmental protection.

Why need to study Environmental
Ethics?

 Why need to study Environmental Ethics? To

overcome the following questions. What are
the environment damage produce by the
present generation? What values must be give
up to slow such damage?
Environmental Damage :

1) Pollution: Air pollution Water pollution Land

pollution
 2) Resource depletion: Depletion of Species &
Habits Depletion of Fossil fuels etc..
The Ethical Values for Pollution
Control

 The Ethical Values for Pollution Control We

should recognize our moral duty to protect the
welfare not only a human beings, but also of
other non-human parts of this system.
Usefulness of non-human world for human
purposes. Humans have no rights to reduce this
richness & diversity expect to satisfy vital
needs.
 The ideological changes is mainly that of
appreciating life quality, rather than to
increase higher standard of living. How much
of the environment damages caused by several
polluters should be counted as damage to my
property .

Ethical Values for Conserving
depletable resources

 Ethical Values for Conserving depletable

resources Development that meets the needs of
the present with comprising the ability of
future generations to meet their own needs.
Proper utilisation of resources i.e. the people
should maintain Ecological balance.
 We should adopt voluntary measures to
conserve the resources. If we are to preserve
enough scarce resources, so that future
generation can maintain their quality of life at
a satisfactory level. Human have altered the
natural system of the earth.
Environmental Ethics Principles

 Environmental Ethics Principles We should have

profound respect for nature. We must maintain a
harmonious relation with other species. Everyone
should take responsibility for this impact on nature.
Local & indigenous environmental knowledge should
be respected. We must plan for the long term.
Conclusion

 Conclusion We should follow the

Environmental Ethical Values for our Welfare
of the environment.
 We are only the responsible for Environment
damage. We should love & respect the human
as well as non human being
