Education is the pivot of every country. The success of a
nation abides in the great and knowledgeable minds of the citizenry. Successive governments over the years sponsor some selected citizens abroad to bring their knowledge in their area of study to bear in the service of the nation. Without education, the nation would be overdependent on foreign intellectuals. Education is seen as a right but not a privilege. It is of these view that every government take keen interest in the education of its citizenry. It was therefore not surprise when the nation Ghana was thrown into elation On the 12th of September 2017, when H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo launched the free Senior High School education policy at the West African Senior High School. Some see it as a drain of Ghana’s purse. Nonetheless its benefits far outweighs its major drawbacks. Many parents will attest to the fact that it is a relief from their financial burden, a hope to the hopeless and an equal opportunity for both the rich and poor. The free SHS educational policy also comes with its disadvantages, as the influx of students coupled with fewer classroom blocks and boarding and hostel facilities leaves much to be desired. Parents have had to rent apartments for their wards without proper monitoring and supervision from authorities of various schools. These has brought about the inception of the double track system currently in progress.
